UT pulls out all the stops to impress basketball recruit Austin Nichols

My personal favorite so far...

"If you look closer at UT's roster, they are in desperation mode, with all of Martin's eggs in the Nichols basket. If he lands Nichols they have a shot at being a borderline NCAA team next year. If they don't, they will be mediocre. They aren't in on anyone else of note for 2013, and the rest of the roster is filled out with marginal 3 star recruits.

UT has 8 current and future players on their roster; 7 really if you don't count either McBee and/or Hall.

SR - Maymon
SR - Hall
SR - McBee
JR - Golden
JR - McRae
SOPH - Stokes
14 - Hubbs
14 - Nichols

This year they have Maymon but they are going to be very very thin. Next year Hubbs and possibly Nichols come in but Maymon and Hall are gone. The year after that, Golden and McRae and likely Stokes are gone.

UT basically has a 2 year window to be not bad, and they don't have enough good players to make any noise."

The best part is he says our roster is made up of marginal 3 star recruits, he then lists the roster and it's filled with 4&5 stars...

Haha. Golden, McRae, Hall, Maymon, stokes. All 4 star guys (stokes is a 5 star). Hubbs is a 5 star guy. And they are just jealous we are going to land Nichols.

I may go on their board after we beat them this season and Nichols commits to us. Just to make sure he knows he couldn't be more wrong.

I will agree though that Nichols is huge for the program. If we can secure him then we will have taken that next step towards being an every year SEC champ contender.

Can't you read, if we land Nichols, then we are a "borderline" NCAA team.

Hahah

Yeah... and you know, its too bad I'm not a squirrel... I've read a lot of nutty things in threads the past few weeks, i.e.,

"Gruden definitely coming to UT!"... "No he's not, you can bank on it!"

"Dooley has been fired!" "No, he will be with us through next year..."

Plenty of "sources" but no substantiation = rumor mill running at full throttle...

etc...

Yeah, I thought the men's bb team was pretty good the past several years... until Pearl had to step on his, aaah... tongue. But, then again, maybe I missed something. ><>

So..the father is NOT impressed by Madness with 18,000 fans and Memphis basketball on display in all its glory, and doesn't get caught up in such things. He IS impressed by a video put together by the staff that performs an act of magic and purportedly shows UT's offense not being a slow BORING, plodding offense meant for the Big Ten and the stone ages. He also IS impressed by standing in the tunnel before the football game and meeting Petyon Manning. Nichols' dad is a UT football fan. Good to see dad looking out for junior's best interests.

That's about what you'd expect from a Memphis fan. Classy as always.

My favorite post I've seen was when one fan said that he was expecting a Final 4 next year because they would have 2 awesome freshman, maybe Stokes, and another good player coming off the bench. This ignoramus believed that a 6 man rotation with 2 freshman is Final 4 caliber.

I guess he hasn't watched Kentucky the past few years. Maybe he's right... 2 freshman won't cut it, we need 5 like Kentucky.

I could regularly share tons of crap that I see every day on this board with other message boards and they'd laugh at our delusional nonsense as well. We are no more/less delusional than the Memphis fanbase, we just prefer our own delusions.

Sure, everyone thinks their school is the best and has much more to offer. I grew up a Memphis fan but went to UT. I got turned off by Cal when I was in school and root for UT over Memphis. I do like Pastner though. That said, I have degrees from both schools, and the college experience at UT is superior. But, AN can't go wrong either way.

Pastner does need to show his coaching ability this year, but his recruiting is excellent. I am not sure Memphis fans realize what Cuonzo is doing though. Makes it disappointing that the basketball series is ending.

Was thinking the same thing. We have more players than just 8 and Maymon won't be here next year. If you take out McBee and Hall, that makes 6. Someone is using some fuzzy math.

Apparently doesn't realize that we have incoming freshman, and a redshirt freshman.

Also leaves off Richardson and Yemi, WTF?

So what is CCM doing? Though the UM/UT series was great for the fans, the Tigers had nothing to gain from that series and everything to lose.
