That's it. Pastner is 2-0 against Martin, and he decides to stop the series for fear that UT is going to stretch out the lead.

Here's the deal: Pastner can recruit wonderfully but is a seriously mediocre coach. All that talent really won't do him any favors after he gets canned this year. Martin is moving into his second season at UT, and now that he has his bearings and has gotten the program cleaned up he will help take the Vols hopefully to some heights that we haven't been to before. He will put Pastner in his place come January 4th.

I don't think UT will have many regular season losses this year, but they will lose to the Tigers. Memphis will run UT out of the gym; the Tigers are too athletic, too quick, and too talented for this UT team.

That gameplan worked well against St. Louis didn't it?

Truth is, I like Memphis a lot. I grew up cheering for them in basketball. My first 10 or so college basketball games were in the pyramid. I cheer for them whenever they are not playing Tennessee. That said, it is clear that Pastner can recruit like Duke, UNC, and Kansas. What is not clear is if he can win with all that talent. The preliminary results cast doubt on this. This year will be a true test of his coaching because he has the experienced leadership to go along with that talent.

Now Martin on the other hand. A stroke of luck (having a midseason roster spot) and some really hard work by CCM got Stokes in the fold. Those who wondered if he could sustain recruiting are being answered by a great class unfolding right now. As for coaching ability, he took a mediocre team at best and had them performing like a pretty good team by the end of the year. Anyone with an eye for basketball saw that last year's team was playing at a level above their expectation. That is a good preliminary indicator of good coaching. We will see if that continues. I have seen enough to hope and expect that it will.

St. Louis was much better than UT and they were coached by a Hall of Famer, unlike MTSU.

UT had 1 future NBA type player and he was just barely 18. Should have been a high school senior on his way to prom. Compare the Memphis and Tennessee rosters from last year and tell me which team met or exceeded what should have reasonably been expected of them. As I said, I am a Memphis fan, but they didn't and haven't met expectations. Tennessee exceeded theirs (finished 2nd in the SEC behind a NBA all-star team UK).

I'm curious at how much you see Memphis beating UT by?

In Knoxville 6-7pts
neutral site 10-13pts.

I think UT's front court is one of the best in the nation, but i'm not impressed with the back court or the bench. Another thing that hurts UT is that Stokes and Maymon basically play the same position on any other team, they are UT's best players so one has to play the center position but neither is a dominant defender. UT has a good team and will probably finish 3rd in the SEC.

You said earlier they would run ut out of the gym....that score prediction isn't exactly that

At that point in the season not sure they're a much better team than this years Tennessee team...but that's a whole different argument.

My point simply being, just because Memphis runs and has athletes doesn't mean we can't win. If we slow it down, take care of the ball, and play to our strengths we have a damn good shot of winning.

So that's us getting ran out of the gym? Ok. And they basically had to put Stokes in the system in a very short amount of time. They now have a year to figure out how to utilize both of them. I think a lot of 4 out 1 in will be used. Either way if one of them has it going the other one can do all the other things. Jarnell will be a step up from the defense he played last year. You'll be in for a big surprise.

I agree with what you are saying, but i don't think UT has the weapons this season to slow the Tigers down. You guys still have a SG playing PG without a capable backup. Golden averaged 32mpg because you guys completely stalled offensively when he was on the bench, hopefully Moore or Edwards can help resolve that issue after the Memphis game.

6-7 points is not running someone out of the gym.

Ok enough. Stay off the streets of north Memphis and put down the crack pipes. Tennessee is going to crush that paper mache front line Memphis puts on the floor.
