Against a Tennessee team who didn't have their best player, was just buying into a system under 1st year coach, had a banged up PF, and was playing in Memphis.....
Not sure how that relates to this years matchup?
The teams are pretty much the same.
UT adds a McD's AA,
Tigers lose a 1st rounder, add #1 JuCo and a McD's AA.
Is playing at TBA worth 18 points? We'll see.
You serious, Clark?
First game Maymon goes 16-17 from the foul line, grabs 20 rebounds and scores 32 points.
2 pt win in double overtime.
Second game, Maymon goes 4-15 from the field, only shoots 3 fts, grabs 9 rebs and 9 pts.
Tigers roll by 18.
Is this your final answer?
You just proved MC's argument. First game w/o Hall, JM goes for 32/20; lose by 2 in OT. With Hall, JM goes for 9/9; lose by 18.
Obviously, his point was that UM didn't shut down Maymon and still won the first game. Maymon and Golden were our offense the first half of the year and if either had a bad game, we didn't play well. McRae should be but is inconsistent. If you watch our games later in the year, you see what a difference Stokes makes. We beat UConn, Florida, Vandy, and took UK to the last few minutes. That is why CCM's job last year was fantastic, considering the players were putting out there.
You guys watched the Maui game, right? You act like Memphis waltzed in both games, when the Maui game could've easily been a loss.
I bring up both games to show how important depth at the post was for Memphis' team, both last year and this year. Same teams, same year, add one marginal post player in Hall, and Memphis goes from eeking out a win in 2OT to completely rolling UT.
I don't care about waltzing, the tango, or the foxtrot. I care if my team has more points than the other team at the end of the game. Memphis won both games whether Mayon played well or not.
What is pretty funny is that you are talking about Memphis post depth, and Jarnell Stokes played in neither game. The big difference is that the second game was at home.
Actually yes...
Joe Jackson and Chris Crawford were both "shut down", primarily by a "SG playing PG" and a white boy from Rutledge TN.

UT is in a dilemma with Stokes. Either he has the monster yr most are forecasting and goes early, or he has a pretty good yr and stays. In your position, I'd hope he has a solid year and stays. Won't be the season you hoped for, but you get him for 2 more yrs.
In that regard, Nichols should wait for the spring to evaluate UT, UM, and Duke seasons. Would know whether Stokes stays, evaluates UT's style of play, UT's bigs (if any), Duke's returning roster for PT, and Memphis' success under Pastner.
