Friday weigh in thread (suns out guns out challenge 8/31/2025)

And diet is way more important than exercise

True for straight weight/fat loss but weight training really changed my body comp in ways the diet could never do. I found it helps prevent weight loss due to muscle loss and makes clothes for much better. Wish I had started it much earlier in the process and done less on the cardio side

I agree
As I’ve gotten older I’ve gone higher reps less weight. Switch between exercise quickly to get some cardio. Other than that I do almost no cardio
The problem with most people is they go to the gym and work out. Don’t change the diet and get results then give up. I believe it’s about 80%.

Consistency in exercise is also key. I started working out last year, joined a gym but would only go 3 days here or there. No routine and didn’t change diet. No weight loss.

I got serious about exercise in July and have been going 6 days per week and counting calories. Down 40 lbs

I'm in my second week of getting back into the gym and lifting again after a layoff of more than 5 years. It had been so long that I can't remember exactly how long the layoff actually was.

I turned 50 in October and I can tell you guys this..... being 50 makes getting back into the routine a lot harder than it used to be. I'm still working through the soreness, but it does feel good to start investing in myself once again.

Great job

I haven't started any kind of diet yet. I wanted to get back in the gym and let my body get used to lifting again before I started.

I was concerned that too much of a healthy change all at once might throw my body into shock.
I'm just now getting back into the groove to where my muscles aren't sore and hurting..... getting old sucks

I have to say it, if the goal is to lose weight then your diet is 80-90% of the battle. Can't outwork a bad one

Also hit a new low this week at 191.8. May be a water weight thing but I definitely didn't gain over the holidays.

More than I want to be, but still in the normal BMI range. Need to rearrange priorities (they moved around during the holidays). But that tells me what I'm doing works. Woot woot!!!

As a younger guy, I pushed 230 and did nothing but high protein and heavy weights. As the years passed, I found I just couldn't continue to carry that weight comfortably. I'm now a p90x3 believer along with strict diet control. As others have pointed out, diet is key. I now stay at the 175 level but still carry a good bit of muscle and definition. Best of all, I feel great. Wife is well pleased because now clothing looks much better. I was a 48-50 jacket but could never get a good fit without expensive tailoring. Much easier at this size and weight.

After a bad holiday season, started tracking with Weight Watchers on Friday with my wife. Weighed in today down 4.6 over the last two weeks.

Holidays got the best of a lot of us... I have been very diligent about staying on a low carb diet... but over the 3 weeks around Christmas and New Years I enjoyed all sorts of goodies. I managed to gain weight but refused to jump on the scale.

Today marks the 4th day back on low carb diet, and I can feel the difference already. Now to stay focused again.

Back down to 221. Down 40 lbs overall again after putting on a few over the holidays
