Just a hunch, but i believe that Miami and FSU are going to be in the SEC next year. FSU is looking at dropping out of their conference. This opens up dialogue between them and the SEC. It's no secret that the SEC would covet them. I think by FSU "looking" it sends a clear message that they are on the way. Since we have an "interim" East team in MO, it makes sense that the SEC will have to take 2 teams that are on the Eastern coast to level things out both for conference championships and travel. Just a hunch but I look at this picking up steam in the next half year or so.

OP,

You clearly have not been paying much attention. The SEC does not covet FSU in the least. If we'd wanted them, they would be in already.

I would be surprised to see FSU come to the SEC due to Florida already being here. Also, I think the SEC is wanting to spread to new markets.

Excellent points. However, if FSU were putting out the scent and maybe some extra lipstick as it appears they are doing, i wouldn't discount it. I think VaTech has sailed. I think Clemson has no shot. ANd three more months of this? Beats a coaching search.

FSU and Miami are in talks with the Big 12. If that happens (and it looks like it might) then the SEC will probably pick up Va Tech and Clemson/UNC.

VA Tech maybe. I would be stunned if Clemson or UNC got an invite.

You're right about Clemson, but I think the SEC would touch base with UNC, however UNC isn't coming without Duke, and the SEC isn't taking both. It's the same situation as the Oklahoma schools.

If the ACC gets raided, the SEC is taking Va Tech and either NC State or Maryland.

Link? Seems more like just message board word.

Haven't seen anything about actual talks.

If FSU and Miami join the Big XII, the Big XII will make a play for Va Tech, Clemson, UNC, and Louisville (that would give them six teams on the East Coast and make it easier for WVU to travel).

I'm not sure NC State's even as plausible as message boards and some of the bloggers like to make it

This is the most I have seen:

Earlier Saturday, Florida State Board of Trustees chairman Andy Haggard very emphatically stated he “can say that unanimously [the board] would be in favor of seeing what the Big 12 might have to offer.” That interview and those words directly contradict FSU’s athletic director’s ACC affirmation a day earlier.

Now, the head football coach has publicly hinted as much as well that, yeah, maybe looking beyond the ACC is something that should be considered.

“There have been no official talks, but I think you always have to look out there to see what’s best for Florida State,” Fisher said Saturday night according to the Orlando Sentinel. “If that [jumping to the Big 12] is what’s best for Florida State, then that’s what we need to do.”

Getting a bit a extravagant. Might as well throw Notre Dame in if going this route.

Texas hasn't even shown any inkling of wanting to expand past 10 this year, and as their new commissioner put it a week ago, they're the 800 lb gorilla in the room

ND

to the Big Ten

We will eventually have a bunch of 16 team SuperConferences with 4-4Team Divisions. Division Winners play each other for the right to play in Conference Championship.

Conference Championship winners and At Large picks will play each other in the Cotton, Citrus, Alamo and Motor City, Outback, Liberty, BungaBunga and WhoCares bowls

Semi Finals in Rose, Orange, Sugar, and Fiesta.

NCAA Final site TBD by highest bid.

Texas certainly does not want to expand to Idaho, and I do not blame them. Throw in the media markets of Miami and Charlotte, and I imagine that Texas warms up to the idea of expansion pretty quickly.

Edit: I was also under the impression that ND was looking to join the Big XII (minus football); if that went through, I could see the Big XII (if it made a play for UNC) pitching a non-football membership to Duke.

Right, and fisher came back on his comment, as did the university president (who came out releasing publicly a pro con list where he heavily pointed out all the negatives of this move...and drug the big 12 a bit through the dirt)

Honestly, most of this really has been the chief of the board of trustees (guy name haggard...soon to be done with his term apparently) misreading and completely misunderstanding their new TV deal to be flawed and favored towards NC schools (it wasn't it was an equal share type with all the ACC schools giving tier 3 bball rights to the ESPN for $) and pretty much going on an angry public rant from some things he had read off twitter and some blogs...guaranteeing he could make the board vote on stuff / would have had their full support

(some of this coming from their part because their athletic department hasnt done great money wise. Their prez pointed out though that the travel costs alone would likely wipe out the extra 2.9 mil they'd be getting)

Big 10 and Notre dame is a pretty charred bridge at this point regarding conference membership. They'd really, really have to be forced their...and I'm not sure that the Big 10 ends up that destination at this point

They wouldn't be able to get Charlotte.

The issue here though would be that - as of recently - yes, OU and a few others would like to expand, however Texas and Dodds really arent so big on it
