Full Football Recruitment List All in One Place

Here's the scholarship situation for 2017. We currently have 25 total commits. For 2017 we are allowed up to 27 total scholarships.

Mykelle McDaniel who was considered a 2016 signee & now is suspended just barely beat the deadline to be claimed as a 2016 commit. When I say barely I mean by only a few days. Otherwise, he would have went to the 2017 class but luckily that didn't happen.

With only 2 commits left things are going to be interesting to see how CBJ handles this as we get closer to NSD. As we know, CBJ has already parted ways with a few commits & allowed them to go elsewhere to play. Is he now finished doing that? My guess would be not. Maybe 2-3 more recruits could be let go to try & get some better recruits for NSD.

I'm sure CBJ wants to get as much confirmation as possible on other recruits before deciding to let more recruits go.

We are really in more need at certain positions. Positions like DL, LB, & DB are in need but especially DL & LB. I also think 4 OL isn't enough to have in a class.

I would like to have 5-6 every class but it appears CBJ may stick with what we already have because T.J. Moore looks to be out now as a commitment to us. With only 2 spots left right now we're really limited & have to watch who we go after to commit.

We really don't need a RB because we will have 4 of them come 2017. However, what if Fils-Aime or Coleman wants to leave/transfer? That would leave us with 3 RB's & that's really not enough.

Right now, we're still after both Etienne & Felix while things have cooled for Akers because it appears he's not coming to Knoxville. We don't need him in my opinion with RB's like Kelly & Chandler.

Bottom line is I feel we're going to have 4-5 more recruits to take come NSD because CBJ is going to let 2-3 more go. This is just my opinion though. We need a strong finish to even get into the top 10.

We should get a top 15 no matter what but to get a top 10 we're gonna have to get at least 2-3 more four* recruits or maybe even another 5* like we got in Trey Smith.

In the SEC, we can't settle for top 15 classes in order to become competitive or stay competitive. We need top 10's every class along with a top 5 class every 2-3 years. That's the only way we're going to get this done folks. Thanks!

Below are some of the recruits that I'd like for us to try & get from what's left out of the 2017 class:

1. 4* '17 NV S Bubba Bolden
2. 4* '17 LA S Todd Harris
3. 4* '17 LA CB Brad Stewart
4. 3* '17 GA CB Yusuf Corker
5. 4* '17 GA S Xavier McKinney
6. 4* '17 MD OLB Nathan Proctor
7. 4* '17 GA LB Tyler Taylor
8. 4* '17 MS OLB Willie Gay
9. 4* '17 GA OLB Breon Dixon
10. 4* '17 NC DT Xach Gill
11. 3* '17 NC DE Matthew Butler
12. 4* '17 VA DE Elijah Conliffe
13. 4* '17 MI DE Deron Irving-Bey
14. 4* '17 LA DT Phidarian Mathis
15. 3* '17 VA DE Ryan Thaxton
16. 4*
'17 OH WR Jaylen Harris
17. 4* '17 LA WR Devonta Smith
18. 4* ’17 NC OL T.J. Moore
19. 4* ’17 LA OT Adrian Ealy
20. 4* '17 OH OT Thayer Munford
21. 4* '17 MD RB Anthony McFarland Jr.
22. 4* '17 LA RB Travis Etienne
23. 5* '17 MS RB Cam Akers
24. 3*'17 FL RB Darrian Felix

Keep in mind those are just some of the choices we still have available. I included mostly 4* recruits because those are more realistic than what 5* recruits that are left.

A couple of 3* recruits are in there at QB just if we want to sign one for 2017 & not skip that position until 2018. I covered all positions except TE's because the 1 we have committed appears to be all we're going to sign.

We could move LaTrell Bumphus to TE in necessity even though CBJ plans was to move him to a pass rushing DE coming in as a freshman since he had 15 sacks his senior season. So, in reality we have a lot to choose from. CBJ just needs to work his magic.

I'm quoting this because things have changed in the past few days. We got a commitment from Matthew Butler who is a DE/DT out of North Carolina. That knocks us down to having 1 recruit available to sign or get a commitment from for the 2017 class.

What is Butch going to do now with this situation? I outlined what I thought he might do in the quoted response from above. Here's what I think is going to happen. I think we're going to get Georgia CB Yusuf Corker as our 27th commit coming here soon.

What's going to happen after that? Is Butch done? Will he try to get some flips or try to grab some higher ranked recruits that are left for 2017? In order to do any of this he's going to have to allow some recruit(s) go elsewhere.

I don't even know where we stand now at how many commits have left UT for 2017. I said back months ago that Butch would let 4-6 commits go to get better players towards NSD.

I also said no more than 5-7 commits would be let go. Others were saying as many as 10+ commits were to be let go. I never for one second thought Butch would allow that many to go elsewhere.

I can now see him allowing up to 2 maybe 3 commits let go if he can get the recruits he wants. No more than 3 though in my opinion & more likely up to 2 is the most likely in this case.

The class isn't going to change a lot now no matter what this late unless Butch pulls off a stunner on NSD. That could happen because it's happened before with him. We have several recruits that have us in their top 5's & top 3's.

I'm talking double-digit(23) recruits in this category so it could get interesting here pretty soon. We aren't out of getting more 5* recruits by any means. I would say 4* recruits are more likely to happen though.

Those 4*'s would still up our class ranking a bit anyhow. We get another 5* recruit plus a couple of 4* recruits & that may be enough to propel us into a top 10 signing class. If this doesn't happen then top 15 is most likely & a lower chance of being outside the top 15. Thanks! GO VOLS!

Edit:
One other thing to add. I'm going to list ALL of these recruits that have us in their top 5 & top 3 schools. This is coming from Scout & not 247 Sports. I place Scout behind 247 in terms of trustness but ahead of Rivals. Here are the following players:

1. CB Yusuf Corker
2. RB Cam Akers
3. DE LaBryan Ray
4. OL Thayer Munford
5. RB Travis Etienne
6. OT Adrian Ealy
7. ATH DeAngelo Gibbs
8. DE Brad Johnson
9. DE Elijah Conliffe
10.OT T.J. Moore (unlikely taking now)
11.RB Damon Williams
12.RB Kaegun Williams
13.DE Aaron Sterling
14.OL Jalen McKnezie
15.RB Bentavious Thompson
16.RB Darrian Felix

18.CB Jacorion Andrews
(committed to La. Tech)
19.OL Toryque Bateman
20.CB Corey Straughter
21.DE Ryan Thaxton
22.ATH Shakur Brown
23.RB/ATH Johnathan Lovett
(very recent offer(12-21-16) but has us in his top 5 already)

* The above players are in no particular order but ALL of them are 3*-5* recruits. Thanks again!

To show the parity in recruiting for the 2017 classes Western Michigan has landed 19 3* recruits. In perspective, we have landed 21 3* recruits thus far. That's only 2 recruits more than a smaller school like Western Michigan.

If they're going to get a lot of 3* recruits then tell me how they go undefeated & now are garnering better talent? That's because their recruits are being coached up by coach Fleck & his staff, Yes, they are in a weaker conference but to go undefeated in any conference in D1 is still awfully good.

He has another year in 2017 like he did in 2016 big offers from bigger schools will definitely be coming his way. At a bigger/better school then coach Fleck could then get some 4* & 5* recruits to make his talent even better.

He's already a really good coach but I believe if he ends up going to a bigger D1 program & garners that better talent then he will lead that program to the top. I'm not saying necessarily a national title but a team in the top 10 or top 5 when he's there coaching.

3* '17 GA CB Yusuf Corker committed to Kentucky on 12-26-16. #37th ranked CB & #331st ranked recruit overall in the 2017 class. :dunno:

4* '17 AZ TE Tyler Johnson committed to Arizona State on 12-16-16. #6th TE & #248th ranked recruit overall.

Since we lost out on Corker who I picked as our 27th & final commitment I have to wonder now who that we're going to get for that last commit. We have several routes that we can go in terms of need.

Do we still take another CB or go for another position? Most others CB's that we have on our radar don't have us at the top of their list. That's the problem at CB. We still have multiple position choices that we can go. Our needs are DL, LB, & DB mainly.

I think we're done at OL. I think we're done at TE. I think we're done at WR. I'm thinking it will have to be either DL or LB. Lower possibility for a DB in my opinion. Or, we could take an ATH that could fit into a DB position. Our final commit/signing just might come on NSD.

Going to be very interesting to see how this plays out now that we didn't get Corker or Moore. Strange that Corker went to UK when there was really no hint of that happening. Now, he's going to be playing for our rivalry team. Oh well.

Going down the stretch here are some recruits to keep an eye on that we might pull the trigger on or they might choose us for commitment:

RB Cam Akers
(committed to FSU):

Per Scout as of today the situation with 5* RB Cam Akers & his choices are in the following order:

FSU, LSU, Ole Miss, UT, & Bama.

Per 247 Sports as of yesterday they had it a little different. They had it like this:

FSU, UT, LSU, Bama, & Ole Miss.

We don't have much longer to wait for his decision. 1 more day guys & we all can stop guessing like we were on Corker who pulled a shocker today committing to Kentucky. Is a shocker coming from Akers?

DE LaBryan Ray:

Now, onto the situation with 4* DE LaBryan Ray. Ray has many offers including the Vols. Scout as of today has the following listed for his choices in order:

Bama, UF, Ole Miss, Miss State, & UT.

247 Sports as of yesterday has the following choices for Ray in order:

UF, Miss State, UT, Bama, & Ole Miss.

S Bubba Bolden:

4* '17 NV S Bubba Bolden status as of yesterday from both Scout & 247 Sports actually matched for this kid. They have the schools listed as follows in his top 10:

USC, Ohio State, Colorado, Oregon, Texas A&M, Utah, UCLA, Texas, Oklahoma, & UT. We are last in his top 10 list so some work to do or maybe he's just not got a chance of coming here.

OL Thayer Munford:

4* '17 OH OT Thayer Munford situation is as follows from Scout in order:

Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Ohio State, UT, Bama, Cincy, Illinois & Indiana.

RB Travis Etienne:

4* '17 LA RB Travis Etienne per Scout has the following list of schools for him in order:

LSU, Oregon, UT, Texas A&M, Bama, Arkansas, Miami, Mizzou, & TCU. LSU if they offer would end up being Etienne's #1 choice but LSU has not offered yet so they are not included. Edit: LSU has offered now so they jump to #1.

DE Aaron Sterling(Bama de-commit):

Per Scout as of today 3* '17 GA DE Aaron Sterling has his top school choices in order as:

South Carolina, UT, Bama, Georgia, & NC State.

DE Ryan Thaxton(UVA de-commit): 3* '17 VA DE Ryan Thaxton who de-committed from UVA & we offered shortly after has listed his top school choices for commitment as well from Scout in order:

Ole Miss, Rutgers, UT, & Vandy.

CB Ameer Speed:

Since we missed out on CB Yusuf Corker 3*
'17 FL CB Ameer Speed wouldn't be a bad replacement at all if we want another CB in his place. His top school choices from Scout are as follows:

Georgia, Michigan State, UNC, UT, & VT.

RB Darrian Felix:

3*
'17 FL RB Darrian Felix situation is as follows. First from Scout they have the following schools listed in order:

UNC, Oregon, UT, Clemson, & Nebraska.

From 247 Sports they list the following school choices in order:

Oregon, UNC, UT, Arizona, Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Colorado, & Nebraska.

RB Kaegun Williams:

Per 247 Sports 3*
'17 TX RB Kaegun Williams has the following school choices in order:

Colorado, SMU, & UT.

RB Damon Williams:

Per Scout 3*
'17 AL RB Damon Williams has the following school choices listed in order:

Louisville, Michigan, & UT. Bama hasn't offered but they will be his #1 choice if they do throw an offer his way but they're not included because they haven't offered.

RB Johnathan Lovett(not offered until 12-21-16):

Per 247 Sports they list Lovett having the following interest list:

Iowa, Rutgers, Penn State, Maryland, UT, UConn, Boston College, & Temple.

WR JaVonta Payton:

Per Scout the only 2 scholarship offers to date are UT & Purdue.

Per 247 Sports have the following list for Payton in no particular order:

UT, Louisville, MTSU, Kentucky, & Memphis.

WR Jaylen Harris:

Per Scout they have Harris list as following in order:

Bama, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, UT, & Iowa.

Those are some of the recruits that we might consider heading towards NSD or on NSD. Or, CBJ will pull off a shocker & grab a 5* recruit that we weren't expecting. Thanks for taking the time to view my post & thread.

Vol commit Trey Smith checking in at the Under Armour All-American game. GO VOLS!

Analysis of Smith for the game:

When you watch Smith, you see a finisher on the offensive line. He has a great frame with good feet, flexibility, and the ability to be one who protects the quarterback and opens holes for running backs. He can fire off the ball and push defenders off the ball. He does a good job of keeping his feet under him and keeping them moving when engaged. He plays defense as well and he makes his share of plays due to his size, but his future is on offense. He moves pretty really well for a guy his size and will continue to get stronger and better in technique. He flashes good pass sets with balance and control. At times, flashes good pad level, but the consistency there can improve. He is likely a right tackle longterm, but could play anywhere across the offensive line.

Just wanted to update you guys on the scholarship situation for 2017. If both Barnett & Kamara leave for the draft that adds 2 more schollies for us & gives us 5 more recruits to take for 2017. Right now, we're at 26 total commits & we have space for 5 more recruits.

But, with 2 leaving early that will mean we are given 5 total so CBJ would have a little more leverage in who he wants to go after & get commitments from. People have forgotten about Preston Williams & Jalen Hurd leaving opening up 2 more scholarships.

If we was to happen to have anybody else leave early or transfer that just adds to the available scholarships for 2017 but I don't think we have anymore players that fits the leaving early mold except for Barnett & Kamara.

So, to sum it up we are going to have 5 more scholarships going forward giving us a total of 31 available as long as both Barnett & Kamara declare for the draft but I really hate to see them both go. They both have done so much for the University of Tennessee. Thanks!

Edit: Just saw the thread that Josh Malone may head to the NFL draft. If so, that would make it 6 more available schollies totaling 32.

WR Vincent Perry doesn't count towards a scholarship because he had already lost his due to academics so if he would have stayed then he would had to earn that scholarship back but he's now officially gone.

The 32 number is not confirmed or verified because of gray-shirting & blue-shirting from the past. This is a complicated situation to explain so I will leave this alone for now.

However, depending on the blue & gray-shirting situation will determine the exact number of players that we can sign for 2017 but if CBJ pulls things off like he has in years past then we should be able to get to that 32 total scholarships with players leaving early.

The normal limit for any one signing class is 25 recruits but CBJ has found a loophole in this rule & has used it the past 3 years. I'd say he'll try it again unless the NCAA fixed it to where it can't happen again. Thanks!
