Full Football Recruitment List All in One Place

Next, I want to move onto the LB position situation heading into 2017. We have 4 total commits(3 scholarships & 1 Preferred Walk-On) coming for 2017 at the LB position. The 4 players coming in for 2017 at LB are: Solon Page III, Will Ignont, Shanon Reid, & T.J. Minnifee(Preferred Walk-On). Plus, ATH/DE/LB Marquez Bembry.

CBJ might try to add another LB or two as well because we have been pretty thin at that position the past couple of seasons. This past season it really showed its ugly head affecting us badly because of multiple injuries to LB's.

The returning LB's we have coming back for 2017 are the following players: Cortez McDowell, Darrin Kirkland Jr., Gavin Bryant, Dillon Bates, Quart'e Sapp, Daniel Bituli, Elliott Berry, Colton Jumper, Ja'Quain Blakely, Matt Ballard, Landon Knoll, & DaJour Maddox.

This will provide us a total of 17 LB's. Of course, the same as the other positions some of these LB's are walk-ons & either won't see the field at all or will barely get any playing time.

Here's the way I see the depth chart at LB for 2017 unless CBJ gets another one or two LB's as the case with the other positions:

LB1 Darrin Kirkland Jr.
LB2 Cortez McDowell
LB3 Colton Jumper
LB4 Gavin Bryant
LB5 Dillon Bates
LB6 Daniel Bituli
LB7 Quart'e Sapp
LB8 Elliott Berry
LB9 Will Ignont (freshman)
LB10 Ja'Quain Blakely
LB11 Shanon Reid (freshman)
LB12 Solon Page III (freshman)
LB13
ATH/DE Marquez Bembry (freshman)
LB14
T.J. Minnifee (freshman)
LB15
Matt Ballard
LB16
DaJour Maddox
LB17
Landon Knoll

There will definitely be a few redshirts probably coming out of this group. Our starting 3 LB's should be set but you just never know because all we have to do is look at the case of Colton Jumper who came in here to UT as a walk-on & has worked his butt off & earned a scholarship & has started several games. He's also turned into a decent LB as well during the process.

We should have plenty of LB's on hand even with a few redshirting & what injuries wise was happen to suffer thru the 2017 season. We would lose skillset some though once you get down past LB10 or LB11 on the depth chart but we even have some solid LB's that far down the depth chart.

If CBJ still wants another LB or two the ones on radar are: Tyler Taylor & Louis Acceus. There may be a couple of others but I think CBJ is pretty much finished with the position of LB. Thanks again & comments are welcome. Next position up to talk about will be DB.

I want to end the chat about the positions for 2017 with the DB's. We will have 6 official DB positions coming in as freshmen for 2017 with also at least one ATH that can play a DB position. The 6 freshmen commits we have are the following: Cheyenne Labruzza, Terrell Bailey, Shawn Shamburger, Chris Bell(Preferred Walk-On), Jake Powers(Preferred Walk-On) & Theo Jackson.

What we have returning for 2017 at DB is the following players: Rashaan Gaulden, Justin Martin, Evan Berry, Nigel Warrior, Emmanuel Moseley, Micah Abernathy, TK Jr., Stephen Griffin, Baylen Buchanan, Marquill Osborne, Devin Williams, D.J. Henderson, MaLeik Gatewood, Charles West

This gives us a total of 21 DB's for the 2017 season. That seems like a lot of DB's when there are only 4 DB spots taking the field as starters. Like I said, we also have at least one ATH in Maleik Gray that can definitely play safety. That would give us 21 total DB's for next season. Gray is not quite big enough to play LB so it will have to be safety.

CBJ still might not be finished recruiting DB positions. Some recruits that could be considered are: T.J. Carter, Byron Terry, Brad Stewart, Naytron Culpepper, Davondre "Tank" Robinson, Todd Harris, Chris Bell(Vol commit), Zamari Maxwell, Christopher Henderson, Ameer Speed, Corey Straughter, & Josh Smith.

Here's how I see the depth for the 2017 season as well at DB:

CB1 Emmanuel Moseley
CB2 Justin Martin
CB3 Micah Abernathy
CB4 Baylen Buchanan
CB5 Marquill Osborne
CB6 Cheyenne Labruzza (freshman)
CB7 D.J. Henderson
CB8 Terrell Bailey (freshman)
CB9 Shawn Shamburger (freshman)
CB10 Chris Bell (freshman)
CB11 Charles West
CB12 Devin Williams

S1 TK Jr.
S2 Rashaan Gaulden
S3 Nigel Warrior or Micah Abernathy
S4 Evan Berry
S5 Stephen Griffin or Maleik Gray (ATH) (freshman)
S6 Shawn Shamburger (freshman)
S7
Theo Jackson (freshman) or MaLeik Gatewood
S8 Chris Bell (freshman)(Walk-On) or Devin Williams
S9 Jake Powers (freshman)(Walk-On)

We are going to miss having both Cam Sutton & Malik Foreman in the secondary. Cam was the star but Malik made some big plays his 4 years at UT. Having watched Malik play multiple times in high school at Dobyns-Bennett High School & now to see him leave UT hurts me a little even though I'm not a Dobyns-Bennett fan.

I remember when he first picked Vandy as his school choice & it broke my heart but he changed his mind because of his high school teammate & former Vol Devaun Swafford.

We should be pretty deep at all secondary positions but CB still may be a place we are kind of thin because after the first 3-4 CB's the play slacks off quite a bit. Thanks again guys!

Good stuff. Do you have a link? I'd like to check it out. I typically enjoy the stuff they put out but haven't come across these stats. :hi:

I don't have a link. I think it is part of their premium stats. I have a friend who has access through another FBS program and he sends me the summary stats. I'm not sure I could post it.

Tony, I know all too well that PFF can have some bad data sometimes, but in my opinion, their error rate from data I have see is about 2-5% from spot checking and crossing with ESPN data. Good point though. They aren't infallible.

Now, I want to talk about or summarize the DL situation heading into 2017. We have 4 commits coming in as freshman as of right now for next season. Those 4 commits are: DT Eric Crosby, DT Kivon Bennett, DE Deandre Johnson, &
DE Matthew Butler.

We have returning at DL for the 2017 season as follows: DE/DT Jonathan Kongbo, DT Shy Tuttle, DT Kahlil McKenzie, DT Kendall Vickers, DE Kyle Phillips, DE Darrell Taylor, DE/LB Austin Smith, DT Dimarya Mixon, DE Andrew Butcher, DT Quay Pico, DT Paul Bain, DT Charles Mosley, DE Mykelle McDaniel(suspended), DT Alexis Johnson, DT Joe Cave, DT Brandon Benedict, & DT/DE Charles Folger.

This makes a total of 21 DL we should have for 2017. That's if nothing changes come NSD or in the commitment or release category of current commits. Keep in mind, a number of the above players are walk-ons so probably won't factor into the depth chart or rotation.

Here's the way I see it on the DL for 2017:

DE1 Jonathan Kongbo
DE2 Kyle Phillips
DT1 Shy Tuttle
DT2 Kahlil McKenzie

DE3 Darrell Taylor
DE4 Austin Smith
DT3 Kendall Vickers
DT4 Alexis Johnson

DE5 Matthew Butler (freshman)
DE6 DeAndre Johnson (freshman)
DT5 Eric Crosby (freshman)
DT6 Dimarya Mixon

DT7 Kivon Bennett (freshman)
DT8 Quay Picou or Paul Bain
DE7 Andrew Butcher or Mykelle McDaniel
DE8 Charles Folger
DT9 Charles Mosley

It's a guessing game as to where most of these players would stand in the depth chart for 2017. We certainly have a lot of DL but like I said quite a few are walk-ons & not on scholarship.

Having said that, there are a few also that will see the field & some playing time in 2017. Players like Paul Bain & Quay Picou who seen the field this past season as walk-ons. We have a lot of depth but not necessarily a case where we can plug anyone of the above players into a game & not lose anything.

I guess we have numbers on the DL more than we have depth you could say. CBJ might go after another DL or two on NSD or before in recruits like LaBryan Ray, Aaron Sterling, Romello Martin, Elijah Conliffe, Phidarian Mathis, Corey Bolds, Ryan Thaxton, Brandon Jones, Emmanuel McNeil, Jaylen Twyman, & Brad Johnson. Or, someone else they may have on their radar that they want to get.

Those are just a few that we could possibly land but probably no more than 2 additional DL commits. Anyhow, that's my view on the DL situation but the depth chart for 2017 could be all over the place that's for sure & that goes even for the starters because of injuries.

Thanks again for viewing this post & thread. Any comments are welcome but let's keep this a civil discussion please. Thanks!

Great job on all the research! I think Charles Folger, in one of the best press conferences that I have seen in a long time by a player, declared that he was making himself eligible for the NFL draft. He has a great future ahead of him and I thank him for his commitment to the Vols.

Thank you. I had him on my Microsoft Word file & listed him in the returning lists in the post but forgot to list him in the depth chart. Thanks for the heads-up though. I'll correct it. :good!:

Now that I've went over what I think the depth chart may play out for 2017 I want to go over who I think the actual starters is going to be with a depth chart included.

There could be a number of surprise starters for 2017. I think the only mainstay is on the OL & RB as far as starters coming back for 2017 plus the new guys we have coming in.

Keep in mind this is based on what recruits we have committed as of right now. If we get anymore commits & players do leave then I will have to revisit this situation.

Here's who I think the starters will be come opening game 2017 with overall depth chart included:

Offense:

QB1 Jarrett Guarantano
QB2 Quinten Dormady
QB3 Sheriron Jones
QB4 Jon Jancek
QB5 Will McBride
QB6 Seth Washington

RB1 John Kelly
RB2 Ty Chandler or Carlin Fils-Aime
RB3 Carlin Fils-Aime or Ty Chandler
RB4 Trey Coleman
RB5 Timothy Jordan
RB6 Jayson Sparks
RB7 Stedman Love
RB8 Taeler Dowdy

WR1 Jauan Jennings
WR2 Tyler Byrd
WR3 Josh Smith
WR4 Marquez Callaway
WR5 Brandon Johnson
WR6 LaTrell Williams
WR7 Jordan Murphy (freshman)
WR8 Jeff George
WR9 Jacquez Jones (freshman)
WR10 Princeton Fant (freshman)
WR11 Cooper Melton (freshman)(Preferred Walk-0n)
WR12 Jaye Rochell
WR13 Ben Powlas

LT Drew Richmond, Brett Kendrick, Riley Locklear (freshman), Joe Keeler
LG Jashon Robertson, Venzell Boulware, Ryan Johnson, Tommy Sprague(walk-on)
C Coleman Thomas, Marcus Tatum, Ryan Johnson, Nick White (freshman)(walk-on)
RG Jack Jones, Austin Sanders, DeVante Brooks, Thomas Edwards(walk-on)
RT Chance Hall, Trey Smith (freshman), Nathan Niehaus, K'Rojhn Calbert (freshman)

Trey Smith could start from game #1. I have him 2nd string but wouldn't surprise me at all to see him start.

Some of the above OL are walk-ons besides the 3 I have listed so they may not see the field at all but we should have pretty good depth at OL for 2017.

TE1 Ethan Wolf
TE2 James Brown (freshman)
TE3 Jakob Johnson
TE4 LaTrell Bumphus (freshman)
TE5 Austin Pope
TE6 Eli Wolf
TE7 Will Jumper
TE8 Andrew Craig

Defense:

DE1 Jonathan Kongbo
DE2 Kyle Phillips
DT1 Shy Tuttle
DT2 Kahlil McKenzie

DE3 Darrell Taylor
DE4 Austin Smith
DT3 Alexis Johnson
DT4 Kendall Vickers

DE5 Matthew Butler (freshman)
DE6 DeAndre Johnson (freshman) or Ryan Thaxton (freshman)
DT5 Eric Crosby (freshman)
DT6 Dimarya Mixon

LB1 Darrin Kirkland Jr.
LB2 Cortez McDowell
LB3 Colton Jumper
LB4 Gavin Bryant
LB5 Dillon Bates
LB6 Daniel Bituli
LB7 Quart'e Sapp
LB8 Elliott Berry
LB9 Will Ignont (freshman)
LB10 Ja'Quain Blakely
LB11 Shanon Reid (freshman)
LB12
Solon Page III (freshman)
LB13
ATH/DE/LB Marquez Bembry (freshman)
LB14
T.J. Minnifee (freshman)(Preferred Walk-On)
LB15
Matt Ballard
LB16
DaJour Maddox
LB17
Landon Knoll

CB1 Emmanuel Moseley
CB2 Justin Martin
CB3 Micah Abernathy or Rashaan Gaulden
CB4 Baylen Buchanan
CB5 Marquill Osborne
CB6 Cheyenne Labruzza (freshman)
CB7 D.J. Henderson
CB8 Terrell Bailey (freshman)
CB9 Shawn Shamburger (freshman)
CB10 MaLeik Gatewood or Theo Jackson (freshman)
CB11 Devin Williams
CB12 Charles West

S1 TK Jr.
S2 Rashaan Gaulden
S3 Nigel Warrior
S4 Evan Berry
S5 Stephen Griffin or Maleik Gray (freshman)
S6 Shawn Shamburger (freshman)
S7 Theo Jackson (freshman)
S8 Chris Bell (freshman)(Preferred Walk-0n) or MaLeik Gatewood or Devin Williams

Again, if we was to get anymore commitments or allow committed recruits go I will be back to this post to revisit it & adjust appropriately. Thanks again!

Thanks to Fingers here are the scheduled visits from recruits for January.

2017 January Recruit Visits

1/13
Maleik Gray (commit)
Terrell Bailey (commit)
Ty Chandler (commit)
Eric Crosby (commit)
Theo Jackson (commit)
Jordan Murphy (commit)
Kivon Bennett (commit)
Trey Coleman (commit)
Princeton Fant (commit)
Will Ignont (commit)
LaBryan Ray
Ryan Thaxton (Vol commit)
Josh Palmer
Travis Etienne
Al'Dontre Davis
JaVonta Payton
Timothy Jordan (Vol commit)

1/20
Brad Johnson
Jacquez Jones (commit)
Shawn Shamburger (commit)
Aaron Sterling
Will Ignont (commit)
Matthew Butler (commit)
Cheyenne Labruzza (commit)
Jaquan Henderson (commit)

1/27
Elijah Conliffe
Jordan Pouncey
Marlon Williams
Jeff Thomas
Princeton Fant (commit)(also listed as 1/13?)
K'Rojhn Calbert (commit)

http://www.volnation.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13466259&postcount=19

Of the above recruits I'm not sure which ones are the priority ones for CBJ but I'm gonna list the recruits I think we have priority and/or we just want.

I'm not going to include any of the commits even though there's rumblings of possibly a couple of current commits leaving. Positions are in parenthesis.

1. LaBryan Ray (DE)
2. Travis Etienne (RB)
3. Elijah Conliffe (DT)
4. Jeff Thomas (WR)
5. Marlon Williams (WR)
6. Aaron Sterling (DE)
7. Ryan Thaxton (DE)(Vol commit)
8. Josh Palmer (WR) (Syracuse de-commit)

Those are the main ones in my opinion that we should go after the hardest. We could probably take/use any of them but the 9 players named above should be top priority over the other recruits.

I think we have a good shot at getting possibly 3 the last day of recruit visits in Jeff Thomas(WR), Marlon Williams(WR), & Elijah Conliffe(DE) or Aaron Sterling(DE)(20th) since it's on 1-27-17 the last day of visits & the last thing they'll have on their mind is UT.

Also, Josh Palmer(WR) who's visiting on 1-13-17 is another one we have a solid shot at getting. One thing for sure in my opinion CBJ will get at least 2-3 of all these recruits to commit to UT. Thanks!

4* '17 VA DT Elijah Conliffe has now re-arranged his top 4 schools heading into his 3 visitation dates coming the rest of this month. His new top 4 schools are: Bama, UF, Penn State, & UT in that order.

About 2 weeks ago the top 4 schools weren't in the order listed above. UT was listed 1st. Penn State was listed 2nd. Bama was 3rd & UF was 4th. He's now arranged them differently by putting us last.

However, we have the last visit for him coming on 1-27-17. Maybe that will be what's needed to jump us back up front & for him to commit the next day to the Vols on NSD.

3* '17 GA DE Aaron Sterling(Bama de-commit) has now a different top 5 as well as we head down the stretch. His new top 5 are : NC State, South Carolina, Georgia, Bama, & UT in that order.

UT was also 1st on his list not too long ago but have dropped to 5th for whatever reason. Hopefully his visit to Knoxville on 1-20-17 will change his mind again & put us back towards the top of the pack a couple of weeks away from NSD. The above info is courtesy of Scout.

4* '17 AL DE LaBryan Ray has also had a small change in his top schools. About 1 month ago we were in the mix with of course Bama right there close in 1st & 2nd.

Now, Scout has those things changed a bit. Ray's top schools heading down the stretch are: Bama, UF, UT, Ole Miss, & Miss State in that order. He is visiting the campus this weekend so hopefully things go well.

I'd also say we get at least one more WR commit coming out of these visits. We have Jeff Thomas, Marlon Williams(USC de-commit), & Jordan Pouncey(Notre Dame de-commit) visiting on the same weekend come 1-27-17. We should get at least one of these WR's from their visits. Josh Palmer is another WR(Syracuse de-commit) that is visiting this weekend.

I know this information is updated from Scout because I have a Microsoft Word document that keeps up with this information. Things have changed in recent weeks for sure for some of our recruits. Let's hope all of these visits from some of these top prospects in January will net us at least 3 if not more solid recruits. NSD is only 17 days away guys. Thanks!
