Fulmer 2.0

majors left fulmer more talent than fulmer left for kiffin

Fulmer had Boyd, Brice Petty, and at the time juco QB Cam Newton committed before his was run off. I'm not a Fulmer defender in the least he had become very complacent and I think the game had passed him by so to speak but his class that year would have been very good had Kiffin not ran them off.

I understand the frustration. I can hardly take much more of watching this once great program and all the gimmicks that were thrown at the fans this year (brick by brick, it's a process, team 117, fist up defense, etc). Each week I ask myself, why do I continue to watch this dumpster fire. That said, I think this staff does need 3 full seasons and then we question whether staff changes are needed. I never liked the defensive staff hires from day 1 but think that we need some consistency in the defensive staff. I don't see next year being much different.

Great post!!! Agree

It just shows that he did not stop recruiting and did not get lazy.

Doesn't mean they would have amounted to much. Look at the highly recruited clas of 01!! Houston, Davis, Tinsley etc... They all busted and were suppose to be top blue chippers! Just goes to show how bad he became-top 10 recruiting classes and he still couldn't get it done! Look at the two Auburn games in 04!

I don't think he had Cam Newton committed but I do know that Terrell Pryor was coming to Tennessee before Cutcliffe left.

Fulmer was getting the Vols to the SECCG every 3 years even in his worst stretch.

I heard it per Jimmy Hyams on 104.5 today when they had him on.

That's my point! Same goes for the Fulmerites saying Fulmer was reason for Majors success!

Fulmer succeeded Majors & recruited a lot of players he inherited. When was Cutt or Sanders ever head coach at Tennessee? You do keep making a point though.

successful!?

Lol

you call 54-34 .614 and 1-2 in bowls successful ? Hell he couldnt beat Duke in the bowl game!

That is successful!?

Cincy beat Duke in a bowl, but Jones didn't coach that game.

If your conclusion is largely premised on bad data, perhaps you should reevaluate?

Hmmm ... I think I've seen this movie before. Jones appears nothing more than a Fulmer 2.0. As many may remember, Fulmer was so committed to his staff that he rarely fired anybody despite their incompetence. Butch appears to be the same having retained all his cronies from Central Michigan and Cincinatti. Unfortunately for Jones, Bajakian appears to be another Dave Clausen with his predictable and totally unimaginative play calls. I still can't comprehend why Tennessee didn't try to exploit Vanderbilts secondary when ALL FOUR OF THEIR STARTERS were out of the game due to injury or expulsion. The defense with Jancek isn't any better than last year's pathetic group with Sunseri. I hope that Jones will take a hard look at this seasons lack of progress and hire some SEC proven coordinators on both sides of the ball otherwise his time here will be short.

He retained them because he had success with them.

They didnt exploit Vandy's secondary because Dobbs couldnt hit the broad side of a barn.

Let's move on.
