Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

No. That's fine. But what is tangible on his resume to say him replacing Fulmer would be a step up? We don't need a "builder". We need a coach that can get over the hump - something Davis has no previous experience in doing.
I agree that UTK needs a hump jumper if they change hfc in the next year or two. I think Will Muschamp could be that guy, kind of another Bob Stoops who has worked with several very successful people and had his own share of sucecss and who can bring some youth and excitement with him. Someone will make him a hfc soon and it might as well be the Vols.

If recruiting continues to slide, they may need a builder though.

look, Phil took over a team that was trending upward and he won. Now our program is eroding and by the time MH actually pulls the trigger, we'll need a "builder".

I wouldn't marry myself to that Hamilton 'pulling the trigger' thinking Rex. When the end does come, there will be a nice, gentlemanly, retirement announcement.
That's not to say CPF gets to pick the time necessarily, but he'll certainly not be fired. No trigger pulling...

2007 LSU

this really says it all

Compared to UT playing in a league with the last two actual National Champs?
i've never said that competing in the SEC wasn't more difficult than the Big East, ACC or any other conf. it is.

but the difference is BD took the Miami program while it was in shambles and put it back in to contention for national titles.

the fact the NFL came calling before he even got them to that point speaks highly of the opinion many of his abilities. the first year he's gone, what happens? National title season, in what many consider one of the best cfb teams of all time.

all i'm saying is that while BD may not have the rings JJ has or the NFL resume some others have......it's not exaclty going out on a limb or crazy talk to note that he is, in fact, a very good football coach.

Fulmer supporters do not acknowledge program building as a talent. Stabbing your predecessor in the back to take over his talent laden squad however...

Dude. Seriously? How many of Phil's predecessors talent laden players were on the NC squad at UT?

actually what I should have said was "when Thorton and Haslam pull the trigger" and you're right. The trigger will get pulled behind the scenes and all we'll see is the retorement press conf.

You don't believe we are on par with our competition in the talent department?

Fulmer isn't the recruiter everyone thinks him to be. Majors had great talent too. UT is not a hard school to recruit at. This in-state stuff is stupid. We have always been able (no matter the coach) to go across the nation and recruit.

That sounds just like a Fulmerite saying "just wait til next year".

apples and oranges and you know it. Phil inherited a program on the upswing and has proven he cant sustain the success. BD has taken over one train wreck and restored the program and he just started on another one.

You're showing your youth now.

News Flash. Eroding programs don't represent their conference division in the SEC Title game.

that's the difference between you and I, you're satisifed with just getting to Atlanta, but I want to win.

My problem with Fulmer is we regularly knock on the door of championships. We just need to kick it down. And soon.

When a coaching change happens, we need to make sure we get a coach with the ability to pick up and keep putting ourselves in the position to win titles.

Speaking of flat earth society candidates...
