They shouldn't have done what they done to Johnny Majors.
Phil just got what he had coming.
Agreed. But there's not one person on this board that wouldn't have done the same thing. Fulmer just kept his mouth shut and did the best with the situation he was given. I don't think he's the best coach ever. But, in his words and mine, he had a lot of equity. And equity goes a long way. In the past 3 months alone, we miss out on:
Tee martin
Jay Graham
Vonn Bell
Jalen Ramsey
Granted, nobody knows what would have happened if he were still coach, but this university had a lot invested in Fulmer and some 25 years of coaching legacy (Majors +Fulmer) to just throw away because of a few bad seasons. i think society is too quick to just jump in and fire the name and not look at the system in general. I think we're in about as good hands as possible, but our glory days are way, way far from returning. This just sucks.
JM got exactly what was coming to him. Should've been fired sooner.
Amen to that. He coached during an era when the SEC was down much of that era, when the SEC title didn't require annual games against three of the SEC best in the regular season nor any SEC title game, and managed to make us mostly irrelevant and mediocre before Fulmer took over the OC and recruiting coordinator positions in 1989.
both majors and fulmer were fired a year or two too late
