Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

so you agree with VR that both should have been fired one or two years earlier?

Its a simple yes or no

It isn't a simple yes or no because you selectively quoted cherry picked) two years of the last four on PF's record, the winning two years and not the two bookend losing seasons, which has been pointed out many times before as the trend (four years, 29-22) that got him relieved. As for Majors, he was obnoxious and his poor judgment in returning too quickly and messing up the final season is what got him fired, but that was a generation ago, long ago. Past history, talked about in "remember when conversations."

I'll admit I wanted Phil gone when they fired him. But after the dumpster fire we've had every year since, I'm beginning to think we f&cked up big time. Oh well all we can do is support the current staff and hope they right this ship.

Keeping Fulmer would not have us winning championships, but the way this has been handle since is as "worse case scenario" as imaginable. And it keeps getting worse.

Or maybe it is based on 152-52?

what does that have to do with championships? His last 10 seasons had zero championships. To assume he was going to change that in just a couple more seasons is crazy talk

but I guess if you have nothing else just throw out numbers that mean nothing to the discussion

You are making an assumption based on numbers (10 years). I guess you can assume he would not turn it around. I guess it is not crazy talk if you say it. And finally, your assumption really adds a great deal to the discussion.

I don't think Fulmer would have won a championship by now but I think he could have possibly won the east between 09-11. It was really weak those years. Looking back I wouldn't call the move a mistake but I'd say it hasn't worked out the way we were all hoping. BTW I like the way this board does Fulmer talk. Pretty darn slick.

losing records against Saban, Miles, Spurrier, and Richt.

1. Saban- Everyone has a losing record against him.

2. Miles- Didnt play against each other enough to count.

3. Spurrier- Agree

4. Richt -think it's pretty close against each other. Don't feel like looking it up.

I don't know if we would of won a NC if we kept Phil(LOL)

I don't know if we would of won a SEC title if we would of kept Phil.

Heck I don't even know if we would of won the East if we kept Phil.

What I do know......

We would of won a lot more games in the last 4 years.

We wouldn't be the laughing stock of the SEC.

Exactly.

During a period when the SEC East was the strongest (and we had to play Auburn three times when they were arguably the best team of the decade in the SEC), Phil still had us in the SECCG every three years.

You don't make that move unless you have a 600ft homerun.

You CERTAINLY don't make that move for Lane Kiffin's Daddy. Which is exactly what Hambone did.

The Dooley Debacle encore was classic Hambone as well.

the 2007 game makes your argument about Saban useless. Then there's 2001...

At least we were in contention. It was a bad game, but a meaningful game. The last time we were in contention was 1 year before CPF was fired. After that, the young, brash blah blah blah "new blood" was infused into the program. How is that working out again?

the young, brash blah blah blah "new blood" was closer to beating a loaded, NC-winning bama coached by Saban than Fulmer was to beating a 6-6 bama coached by Saban

Over time, you have marshalled the troops. You have been an admirable leader. Glad I could be around to help. I think the tide has turned in this one. I think it will continue every year we are further removed from so unceremoniously losing our coach.

Thank you. You have done very well yourself.

I ask again. How is that working out for us?

honestly, no better or worse since at least someone is trying to find a solution to the issue. It sure beats watching Fulmer grind out 5-7 wins per season in an effort to take over the wins record.
