Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

That's a very, very short history of games (3) based on his very, very short tenure in the SEC. 2 at UF. The one at Knoxville was a 1-pointer.

Time will tell. Let it pass.

By that thinking, you cannot say that Mike Shula is any worse than Phil Fulmer.

I'm not arguing that CSS was a spade, or that the jury is still out on him... to the contrary, Spurrier is proven.

Not saying Spurrier isn't proven but in a great football state like Florida a decent coach can win games with in state talent. Spurrier at USCe has been less than spectacular, but he has not had a qb he can rely on so far. If he does not drastically improve at Carolina don't you think that diminishes his status somewhat?

The orange wall that surrounds my world of college football is just too thick.

After years of experiencing the agony of defeat against CSS, CPF finished by giving CSS an SEC loss in his last game as HFC at UF. That was somewhat worth the wait. CUM is not as difficult to figure out as CSS was, so I think the Chief and CPF will have something for him soon--this fall.

Yeah, Spurrier was so hard to figure out that Bobby Bowden couldn't ever beat him.

If we lose to UF this fall, call the spade a spade and admit the game has passed Fulmer by.
whoa now. I think the game has passed CPF by quite some time ago. However, losing to a very good UF team this fall wonamt be a big indicator. Many good teams will lose to UF, especially if their D has improved.

This is the homerism fault you guys have. Check his record against other opponents and consider that as well. It's not all about UT.

Clearly it's not about UT at all if you're wanting to talk about a coach's record against Saban, Tubberville, Spurrier, or even Miles.

so utmba can continue to believe that Fulmer is a great coach even if we get torched again? What will it take for the few remaining Fulmer lovers to jump ship if another embarassing loss to Florida isn't it?

hmmmmm....wonder why UF had no mentionable pogram prior to Spurrier.

Not really. He'll always be the guy who beat us, almost at will, in my mind, and the only coach to have dominated the SEC over the past three decades. He's closer to Bear and Neyland than anyone since.

How did this become so Florida series miopic?

The troubling factor, the thing hurting Phillip most with his critics, is his body of work vs. top ten opponents the past 5 years...

Rhetorical question almost... but florida is THE game and the measuring stick since we play them every year... and they are the most significant hurdle year in year out to us winning the SEC. I would have considered the past 2 seasons much more successful if we had beaten the gators, even if the overall record and final rankings were the same.

Phil has definitely had serious problems with the "elite" coaches... but the gators are the year in year out nemesis.

the truly sad thing is when guys like MBA start talking about a one point loss as though it was a W. If you check is posts in this debate he refers to that one point loss with a measure of pride. sad.

embarrassing losses is what it will take. I our D improves as we think it could, then we'll likely avoid the embarrassing style losses. Instead, we'll shift back toward CPF's norm of sitting on the lead to the point of Ls.

I was at that game what a heartbreaker.

He's coached 15 SEC seasons. Try again.

if we lose to florida because Fulmer wouldn't put them away when he had the chance, then it will be yet another embarassing loss in my book, even if it's by a late FG to steal the game for UF.

Those recruits he and his staff brought in would have been at Florida St in previous years. No question Spurrier changed the culture there and made them into a contender, then force in the sec. I was just asking the question, will his success, or lack thereof at USCe diminish his status somewhat?

Well, that was a darn good UF squad that year--it must be one of the top rated on playstation's historical teams, don't you think?
