Fulmer Debate II

Who had a bigger impact on their HC as OC? Fulmer to Majors or Cutcliffe to Fulmer? Majors won a SEC without Fulmer as OC. Fulmer NEVER won a SEC without Cutcliffe as OC.

Bringing up the BS that Fulmer built UT before he was HC is silly, but since some of you know-nothings want to do it, I have no problem bringing the other side into it and handing you your azzes on a silver platter:birgits_giggle:

People complain about Fulmer backing into the SEC championship game in 07, but Majors won the 1985 SEC due to Florida being on probation (lost that one 17-10) and then tied for it in 1989. Plus, Majors never had to play in a conference championship game. Adds to it. A lot.

Majors actually won 3 SEC titles. Big boy only won 2.

My point was that Majors won a SEC title without Fulmer as OC. Fulmer never won one without Cutcliffe as OC. A point that always seems to go over the heads of those with selective memory

Who cares, I'd be happy with finishing 3rd in the east these days.

Sort of like how Cutcliffe hasn't won crap without Fulmer as head coach. Fulmer measures up as a RC, OC & HC. Selectively remember it however you like.

Majors needed to be fired, and was.

Fulmer needed to be fired, and was.

Our current turn of events changes neither.

Why did he need to be fired? Because he had two bad years out of 16?

How did firing him work out for Tennessee? We have had a great 4 1/2 years so far huh?

All valid points that accurately summarize the current situation.

Majors did some great things as head coach while at UT. Most notably rebuilding the program with stud talent.

Fulmer took over a loaded program and took it to the next level and did some great things as HC for about 5-6 years.

That all being said, you'll never be able to convince the sentimental, less than informed fans, that truly believe Fulmer should still be our HC. Earlier in this thread someone chided those of us realists to stop denigrating Fulmer. Pointing out his shortcomings as a HC isn't denigrating at all. It's what we do as informed fans and for some of us, former letterman of Vols' athletic teamsthat might have an insight into the program that others don't understand

Majors had one of the longest leashes ever in "rebuilding" a program. If Majors was so good and left a full loaded program, why was he fired?

In the summer of 1992 he made some extremely disparaging statements about some boosters, while at the same time, was in negotiations on his contract, which at the time, was only paying him at mid-level among the SEC HCs

It is not a question of IF he left a loaded program. Spend some time and do some research on that 1992 team and you will see the talent, both on the returning starters and the depth at each position. Fast forward to 2008. Look at the disparity. The only people that will argue anything to the contrary, are the dumbarses that flood our fanbase with their emotional attachment to Fulmer.
