Fulmer is still the best name.

He has everything we need to get the program back to being competitive and implementing a coaching search, and subsequent transition, upon his retirement.

Please change the title of your thread to : Question not worth asking.

:lolabove: He started all this mess. And he should have won more NCAA championships with all the talent he had. I mean come on now. I heard Saban say the defense that Tennessee had with Haynesworth and Henderson and that bunch was the best defense he has ever seen. And Peyton Manning for 4 years and no NCAA championship. Fulmer has had his time.

Im pretty sure if hired again, He wont leave the cupboards bare.

We saw that in '08. Kiffin came into a pretty cushy situation as far as player personnel is concerned. Fulmer had some great recruiting classes, but was troubled with a number of injuries to key players.... which caused us fans to become frustrated with him as head coach. Today, we see the same situation with Spurrier at USCe. They took a big loss Saturday against Florida... due, in part, to some injuries suffered by key players. Who would have thought USCe would have lost two straight as of three weeks ago?

Yeah, Fulmer would be a great choice as an interim head coach if the administration has the guts to fire Dooley.

Please do not get me wrong... I do not hate Dooley, I just do not believe he has the experience needed to coach effectively on the SEC level. I do think he is a man of integrity and that he runs a clean program.

If we should happen to win out and win a bowl, how do you justify to someone you REALLY want as a coach that this is a secure job when you let a coach go with a 9-4 record? Reminder, the teams we have lost to so far this season have a combined record of 27-1. This post has nothing to do with loving Dooley, just trying to look at it from a realistic point of view.

Wait a second. Sometimes you have to take into account who else was in play those years. Tom Osbourne another Legendary Hall Of Fame coach was at his peak at Nebraska steam rolling evrything in its path. Nebraska gave a beatdown even to Spurrier from Nebraska in 95.

You think that the fanbase us divided now? Make that move and the fanbase drops 70% overnight.

If Fulmer were to be brought back as INTERIM head coach, I believe most fans would go along with that. However, there would probably be a BIG problem if he were to be brought back as Dooley's permanent replacement.

I believe Fulmer would be a logical choice... he is definitely a better choice than any current UT assistant... and he would definitely be better than Dooley. No offense intended ><>

Ok....so why hasn't he found employment since 2008?

He has... businessman and commentator. He has talked with several schools in the past, but would not take the positions due to his own, or the schools' reasons.

Hire the guy who dug the hole. No thanks.

Fulmer did not actually dig the hole by himself. He had numerous injuries to key players, had little (or no) support from his Athletic Director, let Trooper get away, and made the mistake of hiring that guy from Richmond.

Fulmer's teams did not quit, they were generally well-prepared for the game, and he had some great recruiting classes. Every coach has a down year from time-to-time, but if they have the support from the administration they generally get right back up.

That being said, I would have no problem if Fulmer was brought in as INTERIM coach. This would give the administration to find Dooley's permanent replacement at a time when we are going to be competing with a number of schools looking for a new head coach.

Fulmer would do one thing, divide the Vol Nation more. That would be a terrible move.

Not if it were clearly communicated that he is coming back as INTERIM in order that the administration might have the time to recruit a quality replacement for Dooley. Remember, we are going to be competing with a number of major colleges as we search for a new head coach... if Dooley is fired. Fulmer would be a much better choice as interim than any of our current assistants.

I don't think the game passed him by, but I think he lost the fire it takes to stay on top.

If hired as INTERIM, I believe he would be highly motivated to go out as a winner upon his retirement when Dooley's permanent replacement is hired.

Hart to Fulmer..."Say Coach, I know Hamilton and the fans kicked you to the curb cause the program remained in steady decline over the past decade of your tenure here...and that recruiting slid into the gutter. In fact, you were competing with Big East teams for recruits.

But hey, we don't have anywhere else to go. Would you like to come back so we can relive this mess all over again? What do you say...? After all, nobody else wanted to hire the big orange pumkin since you got run out of here."

This is the sound of stupidity. Let it sink in, real good, OP.

Sorry VOLorNuttin... but Fulmer only had to bad years during his last ten years. He had some great recruiting classes, and as one poster said, "He left the cupboard full for his replacement..."

Fulmer would be a much more logical choice than any of our current assistants... as INTERIM.

I have ripped Fulmer as hard or harder than anybody on here for the way he finished at UT. But, is there any chance he could pull a Bill Snyder and be the man to rebuild the program? I think Snyder is much older than Fulmer.

I would prefer a younger guy like Gruden, but let's say that no proven coach is interested. Could a reenergized Fulmer recreate the 90s magic? Keep Graham and bring Tee home as position coaches? With two good coordinators, who knows? I'm willing to consider all options at this abysmal state we are in.

I agree with you completely. I believe we should at least consider Fulmer as interim head coach. We are going to be competing with some major programs if Dooley is fired with no one waiting in the wings to take over. Having a proven interim would give the administration the time necessary to find Dooley's permanent replacement.

Not happening.. But go ahead and get ur hopes up... In case u have missed it- UT is broke.

If UT is broke... then a major audit needs to be taking place as we read these posts! Consider the revenue the football program brings in each year... tickets, parking fees, souvenirs, concessions, logo-licensed products, Television rights, etc... Has to be around 75 to 90 million per year. Even after we pay all the expenses: salaries, event staff, resources, etc, ... we should have a surplus of 10 to 20 million. Where is the hole in the bucket?

Also, remember... if Dooley is bought out, the buyout money does not come out of the budget! It would be paid by "prominent donors" who have pledged to pay the buyout.

UNFORTUNATELY, with the current state of affairs... a 9 - 4 record is not likely. Hope it does happen - the 9 - 4, that is. Go Vols!!!

Its no secret every school counts their budgets differently. Tennessee is one of the schools with whatever profit the athletic department has generated and after paying for no revenue sports cost. They always move money to education side of University. This way shows not much profit margin. Many schools chhose to don't do this. Just a way to prove we have the resources though, we average at least $3 million or more a home game times 6-7 depending on year. $18-21 million a season from that alone. Not to mention other avenues like the renegotiated ESPN rights since adding Mizzou and A&M . Many lower level schools operate in the green and don't have the attendance at football games we do which drives all the other sports. It is all hiding money in different places. If need be they can borrow back from the University itself to pay whatever and pay it back then start padding the athletic department reserve once again which has been used for buyouts of coaches recently. The money is somewhere though, just gotta use it.
