Fulmer is still the best name.

Get over it. He was fired for a reason. He is still unemployed for a reason. He can't compete in the SEC and his time has passed. Firing Fulmer was NOT a mistake. The mistake was hiring Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley.

Keep speaking the truth. If I were having to actually say this, I'd have no voice left.

All I will say is ... we will see now.

And by the way in all the years I've been a Vol this is the lowest point I have ever seen..

Those that wanted him gone. I hope you happy with the current situation it's so much better. Thank you for leading us blind fans to the promise land.

He was fired for a reason yes. But would I take Phil (who loves Tennessee) and his staff over a no-name last ditch "Dooley" hire again? Emphatically, Hell Yes!

So wait...you think the UTAD is actually paying attention to these poll results?

The only places I've seen Fulmer even being mentioned as a possible candidate are:

1) Here and other Vol messageboards
2) A few radio guys are throwing it out like "Hey might as well ask Fulmer now" (i.e. Clay Travis)
3) Fulmer himself

All I will saw is we will see now.

Lane Kiffin was a great hire that happened to leave early.

Derek Dooley was an unmitigated disaster.

You need to thank Hamilton for his retarded hiring of Derek Dooley. That's the cause.

If you have an employee who needs to go, and the next 2 guys you replace them with suck, that doesn't mean you go back to the original guy nor does it mean you shouldn't have fired them. It means you suck at filling positions...OH YEAH the guy that filled those positions is gone.

How are we going to get the players to come to UT when we can not ever get a head coach to come to the hill. This is not getting any easier day later day.

Forget Fulmer--would be an act of total desperation; we'd be laughed at. You think Hart wants his big hire to be a former coach who burned out and has been out of coaching for five years. Not a chance. Granted, we're now looking at a scenario in which there is no obvious person to turn to next. Chief would be feasible--he's been coaching--and a lot better than bringing in some young coach like Jones with a thin resume just because he's a head coach somewhere. It would certainly be a PLUS, especially now, to turn to a UT guy--but not Fulmer. And as others have pointed out in the past, one of the reasons we're in this bind is because Fulmer has NO coaching tree except Chavis and Cut. He was very insecure and didn't want to hire good, quasi-established coaches, and so we have no guys with strong UT ties to turn to now except Chavis--who I continue to believe would be a very good hire. Miles thinks so--and he's got a lot more credibility than I do. Give me Chavis before some guy who's been coaching in the mac for two years.

players on board!!!

Believe it or not, I wanted to get rid of Fulmer as bad as anybody did. However, when you look at our dismal situation now and the lineup of rifraff(Sp) from which we appear to be choosing, Fulmer is actually not the worst choice we could make. l. He does have HC experience. 2. He has certainly been successful overall. 3. He doesn't appear to have any moral or NCAA issues. 4. He was a great recruiter at one time. 5. We wouldn't have to sell the ranch just to be able to give him a competitive salary. 6. He could retire in a few years and we would be done with him. Beside, it is looking more and more like we'll be eating crow before everything is settled. Just get accustomed to the idea!

Fulmer's last press conference

“It is very difficult to call this the end of my coaching career. Right now I am focused on these young men I recruited to be here with this football team. They have three games left and I will give them my full devotion to make sure we finish in a positive way. When those games are over I will step back and reflect. With this decision behind us I am very hopeful and very confident that the Tennessee people will rally around these young men and start the new road right now. These players have worked hard and deserve it. And the young men out there who will be Vols next year need to see it as well.
As I close I want to thank the Tennessee people for all the opportunities I have been given and earned here. I have been blessed to work hard at a job every day that never felt like a job. I was doing something I love, Viki and my son and daughters are lucky to be Volunteers and we will say thank you to everyone who loves the vols. Thank you”

I'm just saying we could do a lot worse. That being said I don't think big money will let it happen... Just showing some respect to a true VFL.

Can you imagine how ugly it could get in Knoxville if we rehire Fulmer andhave a losing season. Or if we get blown out by all our rivals. The fan reaction to a bad season would be a complete embarrassment. I like CPF. I think if he could bring in the Chief and a good staff could be successful, but if he were to fall on his face, like he did at the end of his career, it would be so ugly.

I'm kinda worried it would be the opposite. There are some fans here who could watch Fulmer go 7-5 for the next 5 seasons in a row, but still argue that we should keep him because he's a "legend" and we "owe him" and we "can't do any better" and he was good in the '90s. Even if he's thoroughly average, which is exactly what would happen now and has been happening since 2000, people would just accept it because it's Fulmer.

Honestly, if Fulmer were here the last 3 years instead of Dooley and had the exact same record, people would still be defending him...and saying that Tennessee is just an impossible place to win championships but Fulmer is the only person who can do it.

Alot of people said Fulmer had lost his fire and or was not able to compete with the new age of SEC coaches. I ask this because several close to the AD seem to think these "on a level playing field" issues with Hart and Cheek started 10 years ago or so. All the coaching since has been mediocre at best. Fulmer did have 9-10 win seasons even with the "issues". WHAT IF, those issues were no longer there? WHAT IF Hart took the TC back and leveled the playing field for our football program? Can anyone say for sure Fulmer would not have us back on top? If every coach in the country passes on the job because they see it as a disadvantage, was it not the same disadvantage for Fulmer? If Hart sticks to what he said in the presser and gets it fixed, I say just hire our HOF coach back on a 5 year deal and see if we can't fix this thing. 5 years from now, and 45-55 wins from now Fulmer can help pick his replacement when he retires. I will admit, I love the idea of having a staff of past orange vols bringing the respect back to Tennessee.

The "issues" re: AD chain of command are now gone. Wouldn't help Fulmer one bit.

Also, 45-55 wins in 5 years? You have lost your damn mind. The latter is Nick Saban territory.

What happens if we drop 4-5 mil and the they loose. We run them out and are stuck with another buyout.

Fulmer won 9 games in 2006 and 10 in 2007. That is 19 wins in 2 years with the "issues". Nothing saying he could not do that or better. You telling yourself your SURE he would not has no more to support it than those who think he could. 11 seasons out of 16 he won 9 or more. His resume says he could very well win 45-55 in 5 years(70 games possible w/SECT/Bowl games).
