It would make perfect sense. Fulmer turned Tennessee into the Minnesota of the SEC. Now, he can go coach the original.
As always, acidic...but as usual, on target.
Hey hat...I gotta go 3 out of 6 now. I like your odds, but I still believe in Dooley, and the Vols.
(spare me the reference to the skipper of the Titanic, just this once, please)
Fulmer knows he is not coming back to UT as the HFC. Thus, if he does come back to UT, it will be as AD. Does he harbor that hope? Who knows?
Interesting that his name never appears as a serious candidate for any of the jobs that have popped up over the past couple of seasons. While the voice of both Fulmerites and anti-Fulmerites resonates through this board, it is the silence of those AD's who could have expressed an interest in having Philip Fulmer as their Head Football Coach that commands the most attention.
Has Fulmer kept himself off the market, or has the market shunned Philip Fulmer?
Who knows?
Go Vols.
I'll be more than glad to scrap the bet if you like. It was made simply to make a point about how unrealistic the optimism many in our fanbase harbored was.As always, acidic...but as usual, on target.

If Vol fans allow it then as a fanbase we deserve all of the crap that would accompany such a move.
Fulmer's waiting on Hambone's job, and 2-6, and 0-5 is playing into his hand
Nope, but Pearl and the baseball program are.
Dooley will get three years, provided he breaks even next year.
But I'm thinking the big money is looking at how long it took Hamilton to figure out Fulmer was past his prime; the 6 million Hamilton cost UT by extending Fulmer's contract; the fact that Pearl can't remember NCAA rules, or who he's married to; Lane Kiffin; and a baseball program that has all but disappeared from the national radar...and has decided that enough is enough.
If the NCAA lands on UT with both feet, and they just might...Mike Hamilton is like a hanging curve ball to Pujols. Gone.
If not, I'll be surprised if he's still here for New Year's Day in 2012.
Go Vols.
Before the Pearl issues, Hamilton's job was completely dependent on Dooley's performance. If Pearl has more skeletons in the closet, Hamilton will be lucky to see Dooley's second year.
If he really loved UT, he would have resigned after the 2005 disaster.
He loved himself more than anything.

Yes. It's that easy to walk away from something you love to do and a place that you love more than anything.
Good logic.
Not to mention, he went on to win the East again, and probably would have had 2 more SEC EAst titles if it wasn't for injuries in 06.
I agree with everyone that it was beyond his time to go..but to say he had nothing left is really foolish, IMO. He still had some success here after the 05 disaster.
Would we be in a better place right now if he had left before 08? Most likely. Do I fault him for not leaving? Absolutely not. You don't just walk away from something you love as much as he did UT.
