lot of boosters were behind him after 2005. they could not move until a certain booster agreed and even then he had reservations. But he did buy in.

as far as Minnesota. don't see it. too far from his home and family. he will take a job much closer or remain in TV work.

Thanks for the history lesson. Isn't this thread about Minn. being interested in Phil? I guess the phone rang once then? But it doesn't matter, he doesn't want to go to Minn.
And, the "real fan" arguement works just fine. What the hell had we done close to 98' that made us so damn hot? Majors wasn't a world-beater, so thats like the last 35 yrs. of history between the two of em'? How many NCs you think we have won?
Phil gave his all for Tennessee and guys like you act like he was just some lucky guy in the right place at the right time. Then you wanna run up both sides of the guy w/fat jokes? Your cool Buddy. Show some class & respect.

So I'm wondering, who was the last fat-cat booster (for that matter who were the others?) that gave in, and how come more people don't know ALL the background on the firing?

I'd think a history lesson would contain some history, but I guess that's part of your problem. And where's the evidence that Minnesota has an inkling of interest in Phil?

Majors wasn't doing great. That's not revolutionary thinking. That said, he won a lot more his last three years than Fulmer did his last ten.

Hamilton did this mostly on his own, with a campaign to dump Fulmer on and off for years, recommencing in early 2008 (after the Florida game). Several big boosters never went along; Hammy just ignored them or didn't involve them. As for the "last" booster referenced above, I assume they are referencing Haslam as the one who opposed it in 2005 and still had reservations throughout, then simply didn't "object" during mid-2008. Haslam has second-guessed it since and definitely regrets the Kiffin hire very quickly (even before he left in the middle of the night). Haslam has a loud voice if he wants to use it, but often does not. But jr. is now guv'ner, so that voice ain't getting no quieter...

The boosters were the ones clamoring for the early announcement of Fulmer's termination after the South Carolina loss. They'd already decided to can him.

Clearly there were boosters that went along with Hambone, and all VV was saying is Haslam just let Hambone go

Sounds to me like Phil is pretty interested. If he takes this job at Minnesota, he is truly desperate. I don't see him winning there either. He will only damage his legendary status (if he has one) even further if he takes this job, IMO.

Had no idea Haslam was a big-wig. I just thought he was a Mayor. He must be a huge donator, why does he have that kind of cash. What did he do before politicing?
