Fulmer Picking Up Steam/Schools looking at Fulmer?(merged)

Rumor is Fulmer and Luther Campbell were spotted together talking about coming to Miami . U working like heck.

Fulmer would offer an interview to anybody that would listen.

I don't think so. He has said he wants to coach somewhere with a chance of winning championships. (Translation: he doesn't want to have to work very hard). He turned down an opportunity to interview with Minnesota.

Now that Caldwell has stepped down at Vandy, I would love to see Fulmer land the HC job there. I think it would be a good fit for both he and Vanderbilt. He would be close to home, coasching football which is something he loves, and Vandy would be able to recruit a little better than they have in the past. It would be a win-win.

Being a Vandy rgad and a lifetime Vol fan, this would be the best of both worlds for me.

Your thougts on this.

Good fit, indeed. A coach that isn't interested in championships at a school that isn't interested in obtaining them.

People will never get over the Fulmer thing. He does not need to coach again. If he is a true orange like he says why would he go to Vandy.

JoeDores, you're nuts as usual. Phil Fulmer would probably sing Rammer Jammer as soon as he'd agree to coach Vandy.

First of all, he would have no chance to win there at all. He basically turned down Minnesota, and even they have 10 times the chance to win that Vandy does.

Second, no 60-year-old man is going to take on the challenge of trying to win at a school where circumstances making winning literally impossible.

Third, Fulmer grew up in Tennessee as a Vols fan, in an era when Vandy didn't suck, raised to hate Vandy the way young Vol fans are raised to hate the gators now. This is a guy who passed out victory cigars after beating Bama until they made him stop. He'd probably puke at the idea of donning CommodeOdor black and gold.

Fulmer would probably coach Tiger High, if Tiger High ever made an actual commitment to having a good team (which to date, they show no signs of doing). That is a potentially winnable situation. But no way in H-E-double hockey sticks would he coach the CommodeOdors.

Yeah sure he did; only after it was obvious they weren't going to offer him the job.

Again, he only stopped being interested in the Minnesota job after it was obvious they didn't want him. His interview at Minnesota was going to be just like his interview at Louisville...a token one.

He may want to coach somewhere where he has a chance of winning, but no team that wants to win would even consider him.

If Coach Fulmer hates Vandy so much, why did he coach there in 1979?

The same reason Tee Martin is coaching as an assistant at Kentucky now. When you're trying to work your way up, you go where work is offered, even if you don't like the place. In 1979, Phil would have worked for Bear Bryant if Bear had offered him work.

I thought he had once been there as a low-level assistant, but that's hardly the same as an old coach who has a street named after him in Knoxville going to coach there.

Not true, he loves the SEC East Championship. Oh wait, that really isn't a championship is it. They should make a belt instead of a ring for that one.

I know Hammy and Phil don't like each other but I'd really like to see if brought back in a fund raising/ambassador role. He's a good guy and could still do things for the athletics program.

The last thing our athletic department needs now is more distractions.
