Fulmer Picking Up Steam/Schools looking at Fulmer?(merged)

I agree it was a disaster, but it was also a perfect storm of events largely outside the realm of coaching. Randy fell on his sword for it. It's debatable whether we were better off for that. As Chief has proven at LSU, so has Randy at KY.

There is no evidence Fulmer is truly looking for a coaching job. Tony Dungy called him to ask about the Gopher job, and they would have been ecstatic to get Fulmer.

Sure. It's a perfect disaster when one of the most talented teams in the conference loses to Vanderbilt. No coach could have avoided that.

Nobody has come up with a plan to stop a running QB in college football without overwhelming talent superiority. When talent is close or equal, a mobile QB is always a difference maker in college football. I'm sure I don't need to recite history on this to you.

There is no doubt it became harder for TN to recruit in the 2000s. Regardless, Fulmer had us in the SECCG every three years, and, as it turns out, probably this year as well.

What I recognized was the danger of cutting loose in hopes of achieving those 1990s levels quickly. It hasn't (and won't) happen now. Given how apparent that is now, I would rather have my bowl wins, my wins over Fl, LSU, and my loss in the SECCG this year, etc. instead of hoping for jam tomorrow. If TN is playing for the SECCG, it is a successful season. If they win it, it is a GREAT season.

I don't think that "quickly" ever really entered into the equation. "Quickly" was dead and buried. It was a massive rebuild from the start.

For real. Based on our top notch performance against South Carolina in 2008, I'm sure Hamilton was terrified of Fulmer winning a Championship in the near future.

Exactly! To me that game was the biggest indicator of just how much Fulmer had lost his team. I will never forget seeing our players on the sideline laughing and cutting up, even though SC was kicking our butts.

So has this just been a massive *****fight or is Fulmer actually going to Minnesota?

He said, “Minnesota has great potential, and with its new facilities it’s a place you could recruit to. I believe it’s a place where you can compete.’’

Then _________________

2 days later he said, “It's not a good fit,"

You fill in the blank.

A "massive rebuild" that has become.... more massive. Interesting that. Is that the way we planned it?

I believe Hambone has stated he hired Kiffin because he thought it guaranteed a quick fix. He was right. It quickly affixed him with the label of incompetent.

You must mean hypothetical rebuild. Hadn't you heard. We won the SECG and at least nine games this year.

We would be on course to get to the SECCG. It does look like a nine win season. I tend to think the Oregon game would have been a lot different with Fulmer and a full squad. However, I'll call it a loss.

Three losses, but one out of conference. With our normal November run --- HELLO Hotlanta!

You can't be serious. I assume you are doing this just for a good laugh. Please tell me i'm correct.

How many NC's do you think we have? Hypothetically of course.

No. Fulmer has said the Gophers are not a good fit.

Tony Dungy called him personally to inquire his interest.

Day 1 - Fulmer: “Minnesota has great potential, and with its new facilities it’s a place you could recruit to. I believe it’s a place where you can compete.’’

Day 2 - Dungy: I hear you talking up the Minnesota opportunity. Might I inquire of your interest?

Fulmer: I am very interested. I have already been thinking about a staff and looking at the upcoming recruiting class.

Dungy: As a courtesy to Peyton I feel that I should inform you that you will not be seriously considered.

Day 3 - Fulmer: “It's not a good fit."

The idea that Dungy contacted Fulmer was put forth by Jimmy "No Black Uniforms" Hyams. You know, the guy that repeatedly bungled the story about Bryce Brown contacting/not contacting Derek Dooley.

The fact that Hambone had to fire him in mid-season, else it's a bowl winning season for the Vols and Fulmer can't be fired.

He had to pull the trigger mid-season, which resulted in the Wyoming loss that very weak. Team recovered, and beat two better teams afterwards despite having to bench JC against Vandy for a -200 QB rating.

Beat Wyoming, go bowling, get JC straightened out, no Kiffin, and right now, we are probably going to Atlanta in the SECE with wins over Fl, LSU, and (probably) USCe.

I would take you seriously, but you're from Gibbs...

No no no...you all have it wrong. If we still had Fulmer, we would be undefeated, unscored upon, and every bama fan would be burning their crimson and moving to Tennessee. That shizz is so obvious.
