If Fulmer were to step down, who would you want to replace him?

Butch Davis seems like a pretty viable candidate

Louisville's coach

Bobby Petrino has done an awesome job with Louisville if we could get him. I mean you never heard anything about the Cards before he took over. Recruiting wise he's had to do an outstandig job to get those players to that school, and he would bring in a new offensive mind. The only question mark in my mind is the competition in the big east, but it would be similar to an Urban Meyer situation.

Two scenarios:
1) if we rebound the next couple of years and CPF stays on for any length of time, and winds up retiring, the likelihood of an in house replacement is high in my opinion. So Chavis or Cutcliffe would be the two in the running.
2) if we tank it the next couple of seaosons, and CPF is fired, then i think MH looks elsewhere for a HC....my opinion that list would include pat hill, bobby petrino and butch davis.

If Cut were named coach you can look forward to being 4th in the east for years to come, I don't think (hope) Hamilton would let that happen. Chavis would be near the bottom of the list as well, they all have the same problem Fulmer does which is he lets loyalty and staff stability get in the way of hiring good coaches.

Here is my list

1.Rich Rodriguez (West Virginia)
2.Mike Stoops (Arizona)
3.Bobby Petrino (Louisville)
4.Gene Chizik (Texas)
5.Mike Price (UTEP)
6.George O'Leary (UCF)

I am not sold on Petrino. He basically took players recruited from the 11-2 campaign in 2001, installed his offense in '03 (when they were juniors,) and those athletes carried out an 11-1 record in '04 against poor competition. Then they dropped back down to 9-3 in '05, against much poor competition.

He is not exactly setting the world on fire.

I think I would rather take an assistant coach who has coached against Tier 1 talent, than a head coach who wins 11 games against the bottom of the division...

what about Bobby Johnson?
Is that any more insane than Mike Price?
What about Hal Mumme?

When Peyton retires from the NFL, you think he'll look at the AD or Head Coaching position here?

I don't know what he wants to do or how good he'll be at it. However, my gut tells me he wouldn't be a very good HC, nor AD. I could see him going the route than Michael Jordan has.

Didn't Gruden start at UT?

It would take serious money though to lure Gruden away from the NFL.

yes, he was on the staff here way back when....and it would take more than serious money...remember the NFL has a sweet pension, and that is a lot to walk away from....

more than the money it would take, i think it would take an even sweeter buy out clause, ensuring his job security.....thru the length of whatever contract he would supposedly sign with UT.

and with the way we are spending money right now, i doubt that's possible.
