Fulmer to Louisville in 2010??

It would be a compromise on what he stated he wanted in his next coaching job, but it would be the best job available.

I don't know what he stated, but the job would at least make some sense for both sides. It would give Fulmer a spot not too far from home at a school where he should be able to win. It would give UofL a coach with credentials to try to rebuild their program before it falls out of memory.

I don't know if there is actually any interest on either side or not, but of all of the scenarios I have heard thrown out about our ex-Phil, it seems to fit best.

That is what my buddy said today. He said Phil would create a powerhouse there because of his recruiting ability. He said that in that league, Phil would have the most talented team since he wouldn't have to compete against Florida and Georgia.

People keep talking about Fulmer's famous recruiting ability as though it's a given, but A) the man is almost 60 years old, and B) he spent his career recruiting at a school with huge advantages over wherever he would end up next. I don't think you can take for granted that he could come into a mid-level program like Louisville or Virginia and suddenly start recruiting his way to the top of the conference.

Don't forget the players could fill in for Roger Ebert from watching so much film

Would be amusing.

Maybe. It actually sounds like a good fit to me, at least on the surface. Louisville gets a name, some legitimacy for hiring an old warhorse, and a coach with a NC ring. Fulmer gets to stay in the area and a chance to win in the Big East for his swan song.

I question, however, whether either side would really be as committed to winning football as they think they will.

Let's say he miraculously lands a FBS job. Who exactly would he be able to pull in as effective assistants?

My buddy is a real Univ of Fulmer guy. He wants everything to go back to the good ole boy way it was done in the 1980s. He says that all Petrino, Saban, Meyer and Kiffin are is hired guns. He thinks there should be an in-state quota of recruits that everybody should be required to take too. Sometimes I almost bite my tongue when I hear that crap.

I am making my second prediction. My first prediction was that Crompton would have a great game against Georgia (you guys gave me the devil for that one- then you apologized when Crompton tore it up). This time I am predicting Fulmer as HC of Louisville and that he will hire Rodney Garner as DC and Recruiting coordinator.

I am not necessarily disagreeing with you...but if he wouldn't leave Georgia for us, I don't see why he'd go to Louisville, promotion or not.
