Fulmer was caught off guard by Hamilton ineptness.

I love when dimestore Dr. Phils like Beef try to analyze my motives. I spent all of last year saying Cal was a fraud for one simple reason, they stink. They will stink again this year. If Tennessee has to worry about the likes of the Golden Bears, it shows exactly where Haystacks has steered the program.

I agree 100% that if we are very concerned about Cal, then we will have a LONG season ahead of us. And this "recruiting class has bought Fulmer a contract extension" business is irrelevant. I could care less about how many stars a high school kid has next to his name. . . .unless those stars turn into wins and championships. Sure, it's nice to know that we have recruited some stellar talent, but it's time to SHOW ME THE MONEY! Don't forget that our top-3 class from 2 years back is maturing into juniors this season. And, I think that we should demand some results.

I think a lot of people may be underestimating Hamiltons ability to be ruthless, high fiving Buzzball before showing him the door??

Right now, the man who currently holds the job should be there. However, one more mediocre season should call an end to his tenure. Then, you see who's available. The idea that UT can't attract a big time coach is asinine.

What's your definition of mediocre? Many on this board (not me) thought 9-4 and going to a second tier bowl this past year was a hugh suscess.

Absent some unforseen extenuating circumstance, 4 losses is always mediocre. Given the personnel losses at Florida, 3 losses would be mediocre next year.

If we don't win the SEC next year, Fulmer should step down or announce his retirement after '08. Period.

As far as who we should/can get, that could become a problem.

3 losses, I generally wouldn't consider mediocre, but for us it would mean we are stuck and aren't going anywhere and need a change. Personally, I think we already do, but who knows what will happen. I just want an SEC championship.

I agree, 10 years w/ no title is ridiculous.

That may be true. I remember being at a party at UT once and this fine lady walked between Toby Champion and I. As we both jerked our necks around, Toby said, "I'd give her asinine."

This just goes to show that 5-6 was the best thing to ever happen to CPF.

If we were 8-4 in 2005 and 9-4 in 2006, I bet he'd actually have MORE heat on him.

Fulmer bought an extra year or two with this years recruiting class.....not that he'll do anything with all that talent.....bluechip players are better the first day they step on campus then they are when they graduate

Vintage Rexvol. Welcome back Rex...things haven't been the same without you lately.

""We weren't a bad running team [in 2006]," Cutcliffe said."

Cutcliffe was correct. We weren't bad. We were absolutely atrocious.

Phil does less with more than any other coach (with the exception of Mike Dubose) in the ncaa

Yeah......Cosey Coleman, Al Wilson, Peyton Manning, Shane Burton, Deon Grant, Chad Clifton, Peerless Price, Eric Westmoreland, Raynoch Thompson, John Henderson, Justin Harrell, Travis Stephens, Travis Henry, Alvin Harper, Joey Kent, Spencer Riley, Aaron Sears, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc,.....were all better the day they got to campus than the day they left.

Tell any of those players mentioned and dozens upon dozens more, that they were better as freshman than when they left and they will tell you just how false that statement is.

in this day and age, a lot is done publicaly that didn't used to be done publically. also don't forget that Fulmer's contract and salary is not top secret info, so announcing that he didn't get a raise on public radio isn't really that big a deal. maybe a bit premptive or uncurtious, but hardly worthy of some of the vilifying or praise (depending on which side of the CPF debate you reside) given thus far.

I do think though it was meant even in just the slightest way to send a message publically that we aren't there yet, and that our goals are as lofty today as they were 10 years ago.

As to the article itself, i really don't disagree with it at all. this team despite possibly being a bit better in some areas will have glaring weaknesses in other areas. the offensive line, while early returns so far have been good, is stil an issue until proven otherwise against SEC caliber competition. The defense still has issues on the front 4 and the secondary in all liklihood could struggle a bit. there are still depth issues up front on both sides of the ball. and the WR corp still has to be revamped completely.

Potential is there, but this year may just not be the year....rather, as i've said many times since the end of the 06 season, i think 07 is going to be a lot like 06....8-9 win range, we'll probalby beat who we're supposed to and lose to who we're supposed to, with maybe a surprise or two along the way...but i truly don't "expect" an SEC title this year.

it's still the goal, and will be until someone else wins the East, but i think the article was a pretty fair assesment of where we are, and where we are headed, which by the way is in the right direction.
