I don't see a difference. They're gonna change between week 4 and end of season too.

Your logic says don't even have a poll until season end. I enjoy watching the polls all season
and how they change week to week. Gotta start somewhere.

The point isn't that the polls should be 100% correct before they release, the point is that they shouldn't be 100% guesswork when first released.

Right now the polls are completely arbitrary, in a couple weeks we will have 1/3 of the data points we are going to get. That way those polls will mean more than preseason guesswork.

It's why the playoff committee waits until November.

There's no way for them to not be 100% guesswork considering the season hasn't started. You just have to take them with a grain of salt until there's more data.

I would imagine that a lot of recruits are in a holding pattern for the Gators, Miami as well. I guess that’s why so many people point to next weeks game in Gainesville as so big. Both teams need to start the season w/ momentum. I think UF and Napier need the win more than the Canes. If Florida loses at home to an instate rival it’s going to be tough.

The VOLS were getting the benefit of the doubt in preseason polling in the 2000, 2002, 2005, and 2008 seasons.
A decent portion of preseason polls is simply reputation.

I think next year for contending to win the conference. The days if them being a pushover are gone though. I think Miami is the team to beat with Clemson right behind. NC State might factor in as well. Seems like I’m missing someone but I’d put Tech and FSU right behind those 3, although probably about the same as NC State. Tech had the QB advantage yesterday and their D was surprisingly good after the opening drive.

Nice! What made you pick Tech to win? I felt comfortable they’d cover but their D worried me too much to pick them as the outright winner. I don’t mean this as a slight against the kid personally but FSU starting DJ did help offset the defensive difference in my mind, especially given offenses usually take a game or two to get in rhythm with a new QB. I still thought Tech would need to be +1 or 2 in turnovers to win though.

Aside from that, was that not the cleanest opening game you’ve ever seen? 0 turnovers and 4 combined penalties is impressive!

I agree. It's great. And screaming the line "to hell with georgia" never gets old.

Rankings almost always have Rocky Top and Ramblin' Wreck as the top two fight songs in college football.

My kids could sing them both by the time they were three.

Just like their daddies used to do. Rocky Top gets its due, but I feel like Ramblin Wreck is in the same class with Rocky Top, Fight On, Hail to the Victors and Wake Up The Echoes but it doesn't get put up there like it should.
