'17 GA ATH DeAngelo Gibbs

The rich get richer and the poor stay poor. Yet another huge recruiting miss. Oh well. I am sure we have another Cam Sutton like 3* diamond in the rough though.

Giving the cousin a scholly when we were only offering a PWO did not help. Is Gibbs worth two scholarships?

You might be right, but I've never seen where we were just offering the cousin a PWO. Sounded to me like the staff really wanted him and thought he could be a contributor. At least I'm pretty sure that was the story when he was expected to come to UT.

It's probably somewhere in this thread, but can someone explain what the hell happened here? I know the stuff about UGA landing his cousin he's close with, but that seems to be a secondary issue now that Bama is a contender over us.

Has the staff continued to try on this one? Why did the ship sail?

That isn't true, Reed had an offer from Tn and Tn was surprised he picked Ga. Tn thought that was the final piece in getting Gibbs, and I agree, I think it would have been. Nothing has changed here, he picks Ga tomorrow.

TN did not have room to add Reed for the 2016 year as a scholarship player, and he had already agreed to sit this year and go on scholarship the following year. UGA offering him a full ride was a game changer. This is what we were told by a member of the support staff that I have known since childhood, and I'm relaying what several of us were told.

So basically we got the Lewis kid and Mykelle McDaniel instead of Reed and Gibbs and now none of those kids are on our roster.

Damn.

I don't think that is correct. If so, provide us a link where UT offered him a scholarship for this year.

So, they were offering a scholarship, just not in the 16 class? Interesting...

y'all can continue to rationalize why?but, bottom line is Butch isnt hot on the trail, and recruiting as it is...particularly in the South is cut throat. Teams will exploit our weaknesses. Attrition, losing games we shoulda won, coupled with less than stellar year in state... all lend to a bad year on the trail. No reason Butch couldnt land more in state kids, or big name prospects with the tools at his disposal. hope we finish strong ? !

Biggest thing missing in this class is a leader imho, no big time recruit committed then went all out recruiting other guys to join. I do think Smith is a leader, I think he could have been that leader had he committed earlier. Don't hear of a bunch of Vol players bombarding other prospects trying to get them to join. Not sure why, others have theories.

No scholarship available this year ... turned the situation. Use facts and Bing is your buddy.

I'll trust the info from his family but thanks..

I'm not going to argue over it, I understand info from family and coaches sometimes is agenda driven, could be from either or both ends. Only people knows is the two on the phone. It's over and water under the bridge.

I think the biggest problem is that they're combating a perceived lack of development at certain positions, particularly DB, OL, and QB. I'm 100% convinced that opposing coaching staffs are hammering us with it. Losing a committed Hunter Johnson, while watching Emory Jones, Fields, Lawrence, and any other QB we've been in it for the '17 and '18 classes opt to go in other directions correlates directly to UT's reported determination to add a QB coach. This is also why I feel upgrades in coaching at DB and OL are tied for second in importance only to S & C.
