'19 GA ATH Owen Pappoe (Auburn signee)

On his ranking

Where to slot
Owen Pappoe
was a nice discussion. We all know he is an elite athlete. Each time he tests at an event, his numbers are off the charts, but is he a top linebacker, would be better at safety, or should we call him an athlete? He has been in many discussions over the past year to year and a half. We have talked about his speed, size, athleticism, position, overall ranking and more. The Auburn commit was again, a hot topic.

Rivals

So we'll move him down our chart.

On his ranking

Rivals

There have been countless 5* athletes over the years according to rivals...they’re rated that way because Rivals wasn’t sure where they would play in college but their measurables were off the chart and their general football skills were good enough to warrant a 5*...Rivals decided earlier in the year that Pappoe fit this mold and awarded him a 5th star...now, for no apparent performance based reason on Pappoes part, they have decided to demote him back to a 4*

You tell me what I’m supposed to believe

Like Morris, Pappoe saw a dip in the rankings have an inconsistent 2018 season. The Grayson linebacker is still one of the best pure athletes in the class, but has been viewed by the ranking experts as a bit of a tweener. Again, Pappoe will compete to retain his 5th star at the Under Armour All-American Game. The Auburn commit will also take a key official visit to Tennessee this weekend.

So is it inconsistent play or not knowing what position he will be in the nfl? Seems like a lot of flip flopping to be right instead of getting it right
After a season of inconsistent reporting and biased ranking, Rivals has lost its 2nd star. They are still the 2nd highest 1-star, and will have an opportunity to regain their ranking with a demonstrated level of consistency in their rankings and an improved ability to pull their heads out of their camp-obsessed a**es.

I am usually a late comer to recruiting every year on the whole. I've read the stuff about Rivals dropping him because they don't know where he will "fit". For the people that have watched/followed him, where do you guys think? Is he a smallish Linebacker or Safety? How is his speed? I say this because Eric Berry was listed at 5'11 or 6' 200 lbs at UT. Does he have the speed of EB or similar. Is he a Jabril Peppers type player?

He's got elite speed for sure, and i think someone pointed out he's about the same size roquan smith was his senior year of high school. I think he's so coveted because he's got a frame that could add some weight to and play in the box, or stay lean and use his speed in the second level. rivals is viewing his versatility as a problem, sure seems like a benefit to me.
