Five-star linebacker
Owen Pappoe, an Auburn commitment from Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., headlined the list of prospects in attendance for Saturday’s game. Pappoe accompanied teammate
Wanya Morris, the five-star Tennessee offensive tackle commitment, in making the trip to Knoxville. Pappoe has visited the Vols a number of times, so he already was plenty familiar with Tennessee. But his latest visit served as a clear indication of the momentum the Vols already seemed to be building with him.
While 247Sports’ Keith Niebuhr reported Sunday that Auburn’s coaches, according to sources, think there’s a good chance Pappoe will stick with the Tigers as long as their staff survives, sources have told GoVols247 that there’s increasing optimism surrounding Tennessee’s chances of stealing away Pappoe. Morris and his family have been in Pappoe’s ear about the Vols, and he’s now giving Tennessee legitimate consideration. Another of Pappoe’s Grayson teammates, four-star Texas defensive back commitment Kenyatta Watson, also is being pursued by the Vols.
It’s still going to be a battle for Pappoe down the stretch, but there’s a real chance Tennessee could host him on an official visit in the coming weeks. And Tennessee now appears to be the biggest threat to the Tigers going into the final weeks of his recruitment.
