This is of course, of you have multiple lots of 3 and outs on offense or you score within 4 or 5 plays multiple times. We saw both happen last season. If you caught any of the video footage from the spring scrimmage, HH was 8 for 8 passing with a TD. In year 2 of the offense it operate much more efficiently. HH will still hit the big plays when they're available. That's part of the offense. But you will also see him sustain more drives, and change pace more often. This is also why coach RG wants a rotation of 10 DL. Fast pace offenses are part of the fabric of college football now. We just happen to do it better than anyone else. Ole Miss operated their version much more effectively in year 2, yet their defense was also much better than the abysmal year 1 version. Granted, Lane Kiffin used very questionable tactics to rest his defense (mostly due to lack of depth and because he's a slimeball.) Those tactics will be harder to use against us, in order to break the rhythm of our offense in year 2 as well. But they also offer more rest for our defensive players. These are all reasons why I believe that a top 25 defense is a possibility, but not a top 10. If recruiting continues on its current trend, it will be difficult for anyone to field a defense that holds us under 35 points in a game. That includes BAMA and UGA. This will allow us to be close in every game in the 4th quarter in the near future, if we don't blow the opponent out. It's hard to ask for much more than that as a fan.I respectfully disagree. 1:57 seconds of game time rest for multiple series will wear a defense out. Sure, depth will help, but it wears them out. Those third and long situations happened more and more as fatigue set in. I'm not saying we'll never have a good defense, but when you have other teams getting forty minutes or more of possession, it's a big deal. Takes a lot of energy to play D.... and those defensive backs legs start to slow half a step. We ask the D to make a few big plays and get some key stops and let our offense dictate the rest.
Clemson was rising before Venables. With that said, I think Clemson had a run of strong QB play that vaulted them to elite. That helped them get elite defensive players. I think they're not where they've been due to QB play.
That performance cost Steele the DC job at Tennessee. Sal Sunseri to the rescue.Pretty sure Clemson gave up 70 in a bowl game the year before Venables arrived. Some of it was aided by 5-6 turnovers, but Kevin Steele nearly had to seek professional mental help and Venables settled things down. The rise you were referring to was caused by Chad Morris and Boyd and they’re gone too. Hell it might not matter how good their D is. If DJ doesn’t improve, they’re a 9-3 team and that’s only because of the schedule.
I don’t think it burns any bridges. AP didn’t ruin any moment for the kid.Well...I kind of wish he hadnt said that. We can't burn bridges with kids with the transfer portal like it is. If he really did commit to the staff, he may realize he made a mistake at Clemson and want to come back here. Not sure that's info AP should have given out. Sucks knowing we missed on him though.
I'm not knocking you or those players... but you cannot pretend that facing ACC OL's on a weekly basis compares to the SEC or even Big 10. Stats and film get guys noticed by scouts... so the competition they're playing against matters.Maybe 2 1st round DL prospects, a shut down corner in Booth and other really good pieces makes it look good too
If anything, he burned the bridge by lying to the coaches. Don’t be mad at AP for something you (the prospect) did, which was lying to the UT staff.Well...I kind of wish he hadnt said that. According to AP, he literally made a commitment video and told the coaches he was coming. There has been no reporting that Jordan had committed to anyone. And did Conyers every privately commit to uk? Apples and oranges. You guys love to judge people’s character from limited information. You have no idea of all the details. Look at Jordan Matthews…Texas thought he was for sure coming there. Some CBs were 100% confidence. Heck, look at Conyers, he totally trolled KY and everyone loved it here
