Must suck being a Clemson fan right now knowing your coach is too loyal to assistants and unwilling to change with the times and going full boomer in press conferences on how he is not a fan of NIL. Reminds me of Fulmer somewhat

Important to point out that, at least to this point, us being in the Top 3 with Bama and Clemson for this kid has nothing to do with NIL. That is to say that yes, obviously NIL is at the very least making a big difference for us with Nico (who, it should be mentioned, visited in November for the Vandy game and LOVED it - way before Spyre was a variable in his recruitment), but we are in deep with A LOT of elite prospects (defined as also being recruited by Bama/UGA/Clemson/OSU and/or a handful of other bigtime programs) for whom NIL isn't a thing.

I'd love to flesh this out in a different post, but IMO Heupel and his staff deserve a TON of credit for the job they're doing with the 2023 class beyond the awesome work that Spyre is doing on UT's behalf.

I wouldn’t doubt that Spyre has talked to this kid though, im pretty sure this Strozier is the number 1 CB on the board for us

We pay the coaches to evaluate talent not recruiting websites. I trust Tim Banks and Willie Martinez to know what a good defensive back looks like. Some of you star gazers need to learn to just trust the coaches.

Coaches make mistakes but they also find overlooked players. You have to trust them to find the talent they need for their program. There’s just as many highly ranked players that end up sucking as there are players at small schools that were overlooked that are killing it in the nfl.

UT, Bama, UGA, and Clemson...

Perfect example of why no one should ever jump to this...
How are these the "two clear cut defensive backs at the top of the board?"

I'm not saying they are bad but how are there not some 5 stars or high 4 stars on the board before these 2. One of which isn't ranked and the other is a low 4 star composite guy.

I know many will say "rankings don't matter" but they do. You don't see the echelon with these 2 at the top of there board.
Why are Alabama, Georgia, LSU, OSU and others pushing hard for them? 🤔

This is my point. Because there are alot better players ahead of them.

Yes maybe by the end some will push for these 2 after they miss out of several others. But they aren't as of now.

I'm not saying they won't be good at some point but as of right now neither have even been offered by the teams I mentioned so why are these the top of our board?
Understand this, I have not said we shouldn't have offered them. But my question is why haven’t the upper echelon at least offered. At this point even if the upper school hadn't seen their film, they have by now because Tennessee offered.

I believe they are at the top of the board because our staff feels they are the most realistic prospects we can land, and if so that is lazy and honestly bad practice.

Butch Jones recruited players that didn't fit his system.

Jeremy Pruitt recruited his "guys" Warren Burrell was his number 1 and see where that has gotten us.

Derek Dooley only recruited skill players.

Kiffin did a good job recruiting but was only here 1 year.

Hopefully, heupel can take a card from all of them and come out on top. I'm just cautious.

The sites miss just as much if not more... tell me one site that's ever turned a Justin Coleman into a high level draft pick or even thought he was capable of that level? I know Willy Mo has but I don't think Wiltdong has..
