'24 GA DL Nasir Smith (Georgia Southern)

I really think this guy will be a big addition to this class…I know he doesn’t have the accolades that some of the others do but I’m hoping he ends up signing here…I think that “true DT” spot is very important and this guy will fit right into to that
One of the biggest issues with many fans of the recruiting forum is the expectation of these recruits to come in and contribute immediately. The job of the coaches as recruiters is to project what they think most players will be after 2-3 years in the program. This is a kid that has all the physical tools to be molded to a high level 2 deep guy at worst in that amount of time. He's a definite redshirt candidate, but so are the majority of kids that are going to come into this program.

Agree for sure. It is highly possible our staff believes the most sought after will reach their ceilings quicker, but the others get there too and COULD exceed production levels over time. FOR SURE when they move down the star chain they are looking for the 3 star service misses that pass the more star blessed guys EVERY CLASS en mass. A staff members time investment CAN exceed the services with their involvement with the entire class.

Staff members are not using dart boards to narrow down their Lower ranked candidates.

Maybe some of that is the byproduct of the last 15 years where we had no choice but to count on 18 year olds to contribute at the LOS…hopefully these type of recruitments are a sign of stabilization happening in our program

The biggest sign is the reduced turnover of the roster through the portal. We lost one person who would've been a contributor in the two deep and another that was a rotational piece on the DL. We also lost some WR depth, but that's about it for potentially noticeable transfers. There were 0 potential starters transfer and not many in total that were on scholarship. We upgraded at DL and WR through the portal compared to who we lost. That's stability.

I hope you’re right on the DL as I thought Terry was a talented player. Still surprised he left - there must of been something going on there that never came to light? JMO

I agree. You need guys that can provide quality depth.

Smith has noticeable explosion and athleticism. His hands can be violent at times, but there is a way to go before he is close to a polished product. It is evident he has not been playing the game for a long time, and that makes it hard at this level of football, but you can’t teach some of the tools he has. The basketball side shows up with his ability to react and work laterally. As he improves physically, and learns to leverage more efficiently as his pad level improves, there is plenty of potential there.

We will see if things change heading into September, but right now, Tennessee contines to pace the way in this one.

Who we going against for this kid’s services? I see Georgia listed at the top of the predictor.

What do you think of him?
Not much stuff on his HUDL. Dale Dowden was there on Saturday at Corky Kell to watch him. I ended up going to CPA at BA. I’m going to go back and watch him against Walton full game and should have a better opinion then. But from what I’ve heard he’s pretty new to the sport and is learning the position if you will. Very athletic and mobile and that’s what he’s relying on rn. Playing in a tough district there in Georgia at Grayson
