'17 GA DT Aubrey Solomon (NCAA IS A FAIR ORGANIZATION)

It’s absurd if Solomon was denied immediate eligibility initially and that denial is under appeal and even more absurd if the appeal is ultimately denied. I’ve posted this before but Tate Martell being immediately eligible at Miami when he transferred because he knew he couldn’t beat out Fields made a total travesty of the idea that players can’t transfer with impunity.
They've changed the rules since then though, still bull**** to change the rules within the same class but:

NCAA tightens transfer guidelines, limits players gaining immediate eligibility

Cases filed before the rule changed aren’t affected.
You may be right but if they operate the way the federal government does they won't take such common sense basic fairness into consideration. I just read the NCAA's press release and they actually don't characterize it as a "rule change" but rather a "clarification" of their guidelines for their staff making the decisions, in other words they didn't actually change the rule only their attitude toward it. The Department of Justice and other federal agencies do that all the time and their attitude adjustments are effective immediately. I sure would feel better about the prospects of Soloman's appeal if I could find where they said they would treat pre-"clarification" waiver requests differently (i.e. with their old attitude, not the new one). This is all I have found so far: Council adjusts transfer waiver guidelines, addresses other topics

Someone change my mind.
Sitting for a year is complete b.s. in football, not as much in other sports but definitely fb. The NCAA should be ashamed for the reasons they list, also and here is why.

NCAA says it's because of the time needed to adjust and thus their grades suffer due to time spent on sports instead of their studies. Both Solomon and Gibbs, despite him being a redshirt, are spending every single minute in practice, meetings and workouts as say JG or Ty Chandler.

Is it really just the 3 hour games that's too much? Really? Because that's the only difference. And why does the rule not apply to true freshmen then? Are they not just arriving and adjusting exactly like transfers? And if it's about adjustment, why would they approve anyone?

It's a punishment for employees they don't even pay. Schools give scholarships and meals, the NCAA provides nothing. Yet grants themselves the power to punish their free labor.

Convince me I'm wrong.

Sitting and continuing a free education ain’t the raw end of the deal. Hate it or love it, these kids are all kinds of blessed.

The are always consequences for making wrong choices and when a kid chooses the wrong school they deserve a consequence of sitting out unless they have a legit circumstance which happens occasionally.

There has been no such circumstance reported for Soloman so I see no reason for any outrage if he gets denied.

Then shouldn’t these multi millionaire coaches have “consequences” from bouncing from employer to employer🤔

One thing Martell had going for him was that OSU didn't push back on it. They just let it go and went along with whatever case he submitted, apparently.

No one knows yet how Harbaugh is approaching this. Is he being a douchenozzle? Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

One day I’m at 9-3 and the next 6-6. I have no clue what we’re going to do. None of us do really. We don’t know what we have. We know our guys weren’t developed by the previous staff. They’ve had 2 years with Pruitt. What can they really do? We don’t know.

I’ve been very outspoken about the ncaa. In fact about 7-8 years ago they set a standard that no one got a waiver unless an immediate family member was dying. Imo they should have stuck with that plan instead of caving to high priced lawyers and such like the two kids you mentioned

Don't totally disagree but as I said, that's not the reason they give.
It's the reason they actually give that I'm asking about.

@Rishvol , I don't recall anyone ever asking what I'm asking.
Folks here are answering the argument you're tired of but no one has addressed my actual point yet.

Rarely is the coach the one who actually pays the buyout. The hiring university ponies up for that. So that is not a consequence in the least.
If they weren't paying it for the buyout they would just be paying it directly to the coach. It all comes from the same pot anyways.
