'22 GA DT Tyre West (Tennessee signee)

I don’t understand the FSU appeal. Norvell is a stone’s throw from getting canned, and Tallahassee isn’t Miami Beach…

They have a big presence and fanbase in South Georgia.

I was down there earlier in the year working and there seemed to be as many FSU fans as UGA fans.

Lots of peer pressure to play there.

one of the biggest party campuses in the US plus not very high academic standards.. especially for athletes. Plus their uniforms are some of the best in the country and that matters to kids more than you’d think

Not familiar with the area, but Tifton is 90 miles from FSU and 190 miles from GA. Does anybody know what Local TV stations play down there? Back in the day, before cable, Fayetteville Tennessee got Huntsville, not Nashville TV so Bear Bryant shows ruled the day and not those of UT coaches. Not sure what CPF got in Winchester 30 miles away. It was a factor. Cable with sports programming has dwarfed local coverages nowadays and eliminated TV monopolies. Also killed the papers influence. That was good news for UT, does not take many John Adams to ruin a good thing from when we were served with real sports journalists that more closely emulated Grantland Rice than the snarky Jim Rome and Stephen A. Smith. The proliferation of TV games further limited kids from becoming die hard fans of home state schools, Proximity can still be a factor, but not like the old days.

For the record it is about 400 miles to Knoxville for game day experiences if that is important.

I really, really want to believe this is NOT true. That is such a dumb thing to let influence your decision..... IMO..

I drove to Tally a month ago and saw way more UGA and Auburn flags/car tags in South Georgia than I did FSU, that didn’t really change til I got across state lines.

I was in Sylvester Georgia which is about 85 miles from Tallahassee.

Like I said, it seemed split pretty evenly between the 2 fanbases. I think a lot of it was carry over from the Bowden days because FSU had been hot garbage since he left. I feel their pain. Lol

Fair enough. Didn’t know that

I'm from Fayetteville, and there is way too much Crimson everywhere. Only winning will convert the bama bandwagoners on this side of the state line.

Was a Flintville guy from 80 to 91 then moved to Guntersville for the next 15 years..... before being blessed with a return trip to the shadows of Neyland. Yep way too much Crimson and a surprising amount of those that contaminated their orange with blue... I have to deal with more Aubies than one should have to. With instate tuition being a real factor both my daughters graduated from Auburn, and one still resides there today. Quite the burden to bear as a VOL. Other than that affiliation my grandkids are dang near perfect like me.

Well you gotta remember, this staff has only had one year to establish relationships. Even with West, it sounded like he was interested in us since his freshman year in HS, but he probably didn't even meet Heupel until this past year.

I am sure he knows Garner

Hopefully proximity to family is not a high priority.

Defensive kids like West, M'ba, Tolan are our biggest recruiting needs, IMO. I know we need studs on both sides of the ball, but I also have a higher level of confidence that CJH can scheme and coach on the offensive side of the ball and get results out of average talent. These big boys on defense are our biggest need.

Be great if he brings little sister for visit tomorrow....gotta over come 5hr drive vs 2 hr drive !

“My little sister, she’s like my biggest fan,” West said. “I know she wants to come to all of my games -- my mom, my dad, my brother and my other sister. I know I gotta be close to them.”
-Tyre

Monday night VQ chat....

Chances with Tyre West ?
I’d say 30% Auburn 30 and FSU 40 as of now before final 2 visits
