'22 GA DT Tyre West (Tennessee signee)

Flip Watch
Tifton (Ga.) Tift County product Tyre West is going to land elsewhere; the question is will that be Florida State or Tennessee? I like where the Seminoles stand following two late visits to Tallahassee including an official the first weekend of December. The Vols aimed to turn the momentum in their favor with an official this past weekend.

We’ve still done a lot better than I thought. In the light of the investigation, I didn’t think we had any shot at a top 20 class.

The investigation will likely still be ongoing this time next year. With a solid season and Rodney Garner I expected us to finish strong. I’d like to know the staff’s insite on how things are playing out.

Not familiar with the area, but Tifton is 90 miles from FSU and 190 miles from GA. Does anybody know what Local TV stations play down there? Back in the day, before cable, Fayetteville Tennessee got Huntsville, not Nashville TV so Bear Bryant shows ruled the day and not those of UT coaches. Not sure what CPF got in Winchester 30 miles away. It was a factor. Cable with sports programming has dwarfed local coverages nowadays and eliminated TV monopolies. Also killed the papers influence. That was good news for UT, does not take many John Adams to ruin a good thing from when we were served with real sports journalists that more closely emulated Grantland Rice than the snarky Jim Rome and Stephen A. Smith. The proliferation of TV games further limited kids from becoming die hard fans of home state schools, Proximity can still be a factor, but not like the old days.

For the record it is about 400 miles to Knoxville for game day experiences if that is important.
I think at least one of the networks has an affiliate in Albany (southwest GA). Otherwise I’d guess Tallahassee market.

I really don’t think they’re that worried. Anybody they miss on the HS trail can be addressed in the portal anyway.

LONGTIME GEORGIA COMMIT ENJOYS TENNESSEE VISIT

Longtime Georgia commitment Tyre West, a Top247 defensive lineman from Tift County High School in Tifton, Ga., returned to Tennessee over the weekend for his official visit with the Vols after not taking his previously planned official visit to Auburn earlier in the week. By all indications, West’s final decision now will come down to Tennessee and Florida State, which hosted him on official visits the past two weekends.

At the very least, sources close to his recruitment believe the Vols have made things interesting as West prepares to make his final decision by Wednesday and sign on the first day of the Early Signing Period. Florida State has felt good about its chances of landing the 6-foot-3, 278-pound West — who plans to be an early enrollee — over the past few weeks. But the Vols now seem to believe they have a legitimate shot at beating out the Seminoles for him as he continues to weigh his options.

The writing is on the wall for Mike Norvell. He won't last at FSU and will be fired in the next 2-3 years. You don't lose to Jacksonville State if you're a good coach. Just ask Jeremy Pruitt and the Georgia State debacle. If we miss on him this year, we'll have a shot at him in the portal once FSU fires their coach again.

Come to Tennessee: A beacon of coaching stability!

In this scenario, yes. Heupel isn't going anywhere for a long time, win or lose. And, Heupel has shown far more in Year 1 than Mike Norvell has done in two years at FSU.

Mike Norvell (2020): 3-6
Mike Norvell (2021): 5-7

You think that's going to cut it much longer in Tallahassee? They fired Taggart before he even finished his 2nd season.

And that roster had/has talent. Those records are as bad of examples of coaching malpractice as Pruitt’s three years here.
