I’ll echo what Tony Basilio has said numerous times.. Tennessee needs players. Time will tell if Josh Heupel can recruit at the level he needs to be successful in this league. Heupel is a great coach.. his recruiting leaves much to be desired.
Turns out it’s harder to recruit defensive players when you’re in a system that requires the defense to be on the field for 45+ minutes per game.

We can attract them to come for visits. But thus far, we can’t attract them to commit. No commitments on the defensive side of the ball rated above a 3 ️ (according to Rivals). I understand “stars aren’t everything”, but asking 3 star talent to be on the field for 45 min and compete against the big boys in the SEC is a tall ask.We can attract top defensive talent with this offensive system.
It's up to those players to get off the field. There was a severe lack of execution on that side of the ball. Not the biggest fan of some of the calls by CB on 3rd downs but there were plenty of times to get off the field.
Only game I was disappointed in was Kentucky, other than that I thought he was outstanding. It's up to those players to get off the field. Your being awfully presumptuous on how we are recruiting. First you say time will tell, then you finish by saying his recruiting leaves much to be desired. This is his first class and signing day hasn’t happened yet. Give the man at least 2 recruiting classes before you say he and his staff can’t recruit. We will be just fine! GBO!I’ll echo what Tony Basilio has said numerous times.. Tennessee needs players. Time will tell if Josh Heupel can recruit at the level he needs to be successful in this league. That’s fair. And we’re all gonna have different measuring sticks. Giving up 38 to the 2021 Gators was less than “outstanding” to me.Only game I was disappointed in was Kentucky, other than that I thought he was outstanding.

Basil bag is a joke and a douche. "Tennessee needs players." Consider the opposite: "Tennessee does NOT need players." So he was really risky with his platitude! How daring! "Time will tell if Josh Heupel can recruit at the level he needs to be successful." Consider the opposite: "We can know in advance with absolute certitude whether Josh Heupel can recruit at the level." No one would say the latter, so his opposite claim is a nothingburger. "His recruiting leaves much to be desired." But this contradicts Basil bag's preceding world-shattering insight. Genius! The trick is that through some fluke of human nature, pessimistic views seem "smarter" to people who don't take the time to consider how meaningless the claim is. However the future turns out, he will say he predicted it. He predicted "time will tell."I’ll echo what Tony Basilio has said numerous times.. Tennessee needs players. 9 wins a year??? Well yeah, I’m sure none of us would care!If he wins 9 games a year, I really don’t care. Will I accept that forever? No. But after the last decade and a half, if you told me we’re going 9-3/10-2 the next 5 years with Heupel, I’d take it. We’ve had too many snake oil salesmen who could recruit but couldn’t coach or develop for crap.
