'24 GA EDGE Kameryn Fountain (USC commit)

No offense to anyone seeking academic excellence, but unless you are highly gifted, there is zero chance the difference in quality between one major university or another is going to make any real difference in the outcome. And conversely, a highly gifted person can excel anywhere.

Put another way, unless you are a prodigy, playing a Stradivarius isn't going to make you better. And at his prime, Tiger could beat you by 10 strokes with a 25 year old Wal-Mart 8 iron and cut range ball.
I understand this 100%. But she said our academia was bottom barrel (which it is compared to usc). It does seem very important, she stated that she asked TN multiple times to show certain numbers. unless he wants to be a movie star, any degree from any school matters the same. Until you get into ivy leagues and similar educational institutions.

It’s a long way to go let’s let it play out during the season… we will get enough and develop enough no matter who we get as long as they buy Into the culture. It seems the fans always forget the players we already have on the roster as well when we miss on a recruit… this is as deep we’ve been in a Long time as a team… I think the defense takes another jump this year and recruits will see we have a fun fast physical defense that plays a lot of players… we will be okay… I usually avoid judging family over social media because I know how protective mothers are but if that’s all it took to get her amped we might have dodged a bullet because kam will face alot more adversity n scrutiny than that if he ever wants to play at the next level or be a high level D1 player…

It sounds like USCw saw an opportunity to do some negative recruiting and it worked. If so and the part about posts on social media are true then UT may have dodged a bullet with a guy and family who were not mature enough to deal with real world pressures.

OTOH, recruit guys well and in a couple of years when some of them hit the portal they will remember who was genuine and candid. I think it is likely this family is making a mistake but it is theirs to make.

Academically, USC is a private and very expensive school. Many of its graduates go to work in CA where wages and costs of living are greatly inflated. At the top end, they likely produce more elite types of graduates. If this kid is that smart then he made a good decision... if not then he may find the academic pace too stressing while playing football.

More about making connections for most players. Kid would’ve been much better off at an SEC school or Clemson. Usc can offer a lot but she’s dumb if she thinks he’s going to succeed there with or without football. He’ll be processed out almost immediately if he can’t contribute on the field.

I think the USC staff were surprised at the speed of his commitment,

USC's football program might be more of a family atmosphere than other places in Los Angeles, but that's not saying much. The two-faced, knives out culture in L.A. is on an infamously higher level. Good luck to Fountain, but I think he bought into a disingenuous sales pitch.

Bottom barrel? No.

UT Rises to 46th Among Nation’s Best Public Universities

I would love to know the success rate for players with rational and supportive families vs those with raging lunatics and/or missing fathers. Teachability begins at home and it is a critical attribute for success. There is night and day difference between people like Jamie Hyatt or Cam Seldon's uncle and others we've seen around here. I can't help but feel that outcomes for guys with support systems like that are better in every way.

She’s not comparing Tennessee to any other college but USC who ranks top 25 nationally while UT is 104th.

Do you really think that USC would accept Fountain as a student if he weren't a four-star football player? Even if Fountain is academically gifted, he will be in a student body that are among the most elitist snobs on the planet. Hopefully he will make a few friends on the team. Many of the peep there won't give him the time of day. Have you ever been out there? I'm telling you, those folks live in a different world. Riley sold him on USC opening doors. When the football is over, that won't happen in Los Angeles.

She can't construct a coherent sentence. Her opinion about academics really isn't relevant to me.
Maybe that’s why she wants more for her son. You obviously judge someone from their upbringing when you don’t know what it’s like. She wants more for him than she got. Get a grip.

That is exactly why sports are so amazing. A kid from the projects can rise above all the people in his neighborhood and get an elite education. That would never be possible but now it is. You don’t know what he is possible of. There’s more willpower in kids from the hood than kids born with money.

If he takes a degree in something like programming, engineering, or molecular biology, he could make a very good living out there. But if he hits the streets with a business degree, he'll be just an ex-football player from Atlanta, swimming with the sharks.

I always find it funny when people talk about university rankings. It depends on your major. If you want a supply chain degree, for example, you would pick UT over USC. If you want to make movies you would go to USC.

Good luck to him swimming with the sharks, whatever be his shot.
