Do you think they're as offended by insults to the academic life at UT as we are? I'm talking about every aspect of the university. As a second generation graduate and homer, it pisses me off.

They take to heart the athletics... more specifically their football team. I don't think they care one bit if someone takes shots at other aspects of the school. Especially academics. They'll get the info together to explain to her why she's wrong, but they're not going to be offended. That's probably for the best, because apparently we are still in it for consideration where most of us would choose to shut that down.

We talk about players being "mercenaries" when we get in bidding wars for them or get a graduate transfer for 1 year or something. Coaches are mercenaries sometimes too. Do we think Nick Saban loved Alabama 3 years after being hired? It was the best career stop for him and they paid him. Jeremy Pruitt was a mercenary. Some coaches eventually fall in love with their adopted school, and I hope that happens with Heupel. But I don't think its farfetched to say a lot of the coaches on this staff aren't offended by a mom calling UT a "bottom of the barrel ass school" about academics - and that's okay.

[I want to make it abundantly clear I'm not complaining about the coaches at all. 0% complaints. It's just the reality of the situation.]
Yeah coachs "keep it movin".

Oh, you meant homers to academics. Well, no probably not. And obviously coaches are mercenaries also. But in my naïveté I would like for our coaches to love Tennessee. I feel like this group actually is falling in love. No, I don’t think they are as easily offended as we are. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with us getting offended either.

This is the new age of recruiting. Recruit before during and after a commitment. This young man will be welcomed whenever he wants to come to Tennessee. It's the portal life now.

Staffs have always recruited before, during, and after commitments.

The difference now is they have to continue to recruit after signings.

After the Twitter spat, this guy is not coming here. Imo, waste of time but I'm not on the staff. I hope they got other options and this is not a sign we are not in good position with others.

You are obviously new to recruiting. Remember the Wilcoxson kid a few years ago decommitted from Florida, committed to us and basically trashed Florida. I think he was committed to us less than a month before he flipped back to Florida. These relationships are complex. Even though his family was mad at the fan base, you can bet the relationship with the coaching staff has remained strong. Recruiters specialize in these things, a few twitter users isnt going to impact a decision 98% of the time.

If thays

If he's that petty then we don't want him anyway. But I doubt he bases pretty much his career of an internet spat with a few DA fans.

Same reason why we go after chicks who have bf’s or major red flags, cause we think we can fix em
So, you are saying we should just give up? Yeah, that sounds like a great plan. Since he is committed elsewhere and there's only about 4.5 months to get him to change his mind.

What happened exactly? I haven’t followed this recruitment

Just when he committed to USC a few Twitter stalkers were critical of the decision and they fired back.

Btw, I saw a car in West Tn with EVOL on the plate. Could that be you?

Don't think he's going there to play school. He's going to play football.
Sure, but this generation of kids in general seems to be more focused on academics than in the past. We talk a lot about “life-changing money” from going to the NFL when a majority of even power 5 players will never make it there. In a day when many student athletes earn not just bachelor but graduate degrees as well, the education can potentially be a generational gamechanger as well.

Tbf, Wilcoxson transferred to Temple after never cracking the lineup at Florida.

He abruptly committed to USC then his mom was on social media calling UT a "bottom of the barrel ass school" with respect to academics. Said we didn't give them any academic info (very slim chance that's true) or talk about it at all and referenced our national ranking.

we passed

she mad

After what I just went through with my son, I actually believe it. The Admissions Department has high turnover. Communication has been terrible. We have to call his recruiter, and she never answered or replies. We usually have to get information from other parents. UTK was the only school NOT tripping over themselves to get him. It was infuriating. I’m a VFL, but honestly, it made me want him to go somewhere else too.

For the record…My son is top 1%. National Merit Scholar, 35 ACT, 4.5 GPA, 5 on every AP exam, etc. UTK was where he’s always wanted to go and he’s moving into his dorm in a couple of weeks.

I got a son like that starting at Oklahoma in two weeks. I wish our sons well. Wish my son had seriously considered UTK. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Congratulations!

How great of an engineering school Tickle is had a big influence…..and attending games. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

Yes my son wants to be a surgeon so UT didn’t make the initial cut. BUT at least my son said early on “Dad I will never go to Kentucky, Bama or Florida. I won’t even look at them.” 😅

Definitely wasn’t me, lol. But it makes me wonder who would have that and why?
