Prior to Harmon flipping his commitment from Crimson to Orange, Volquest caught up with Rome High School Head Coach John Reid to get his thoughts on the coveted prospect’s game.
“As he started to grow and really bought into the weight program and the speed development, he is super fast at 218 pounds,” Reid said of Harmon. “The thing that you will notice on his film is that he does not just tackle people, he makes them disappear. He hits. He is a rarity. He is a pass rusher. He can play inside backer. He can play out in the field. He can play safety. I think in his first track meet, he ran a 10.9 at 218 pounds. He ran 4.5 or better in all of the times he has run. He is relentless in coverage and pursuit.”
As a leader, Harmon has shined on and off the field at Rome during his career for the Wolves.
“He is a guy where if we have a day where we aren’t lifting or doing something, he gets pissed off. The coaches at Tennessee are going to love him. He is one of the first ones there and last ones to leave. He studies the game. He just gets it. He understands what he is going against. He knows what the offense and what he is doing.”
What does this mean for the Tennessee Linebacker room?
This is another key addition to a room that has continued to stack top talent in it over the last few cycles. Harmon pairs with top-100 linebacker Christian Gass to give the Vols two high-caliber prospects to give Tennessee an impressive haul for the 2025 cycle.
This is also a big win for William Inge in his first cycle on Rocky Top as he was a vital part of flipping Harmon away from Alabama.
“I helped him with some of that and give all of the kids some guidance, and it is really important to be wanted and needed when you go someplace,” Reid told Volquest of why he felt like Harmon had a change of heart. “He just feels there is a chance to help Tennessee win games right off the bat, and they really want him there and they showed that. He has reallytaken a liking to Coach Heupel, Coach Inge and Coach Banks. Coach Inge is a great person to have on your staff. He is genuine as hell. I don’t think that guy would ever tell a lie.”
So what’s next?
Tennessee now awaits a decision from Onis Konanbanny ahead of the start of the 2024 season. The four-star prospect will decide on August 23rd with the Vols and Florida State as his two finalists. The Vols will continue to look at other prospects in the 2025 cycle as the season starts, and a lot of focus will shift toward the 2026 cycle, which Tennessee is off to a hot start with.
