Our third year we were routinely the strongest team in games. No one pushed us around. When Lawson left it got bad and quick.

We have talent looking on both sides of the ball, but with how poorly these guys have been developed it’s no wonder we did so bad.

No offense, but I stopped reading after your first sentence. We don’t need JJ to “develop depth”....we need him so that we’ll have some legit big time SEC linebackers on the roster.

Kirkland-Ignont
Bituli-Smith(Walker if we can get him)
Sapp-Page(Peterson if we can get him)

That’s a dang solid 2-deep at LB if developed properly...and all of them would be back in 19 assuming none of them leave early or get kicked off

- Smith hasn’t done anything to date..possibly never will
- Kongbo can’t play in space, not agile enough
- Ignont has potential but has only played a few snaps.
- We don’t have Bama, Auburn, LSU or Georgia’s talent and depth...not even in the same area code..

Kongbo has his own logo and highlight video he put out. I’ve never seen a player so into himself with no production.

All this talk about LB makes me wonder about Dillon Bates. He had the talent when he came in. Was it a staff/scheme mismatch or did he lose his work ethic?

Camp hypebeast..... Would have been a casualty at another school. He’s small and not sudden. Looks to have benefited in High School of being advanced football wise due to his dad. Hate it for the kid but it is what it is.

Thank you, we need terrors at the LB position. Jumper starting in any capacity proves that point vividly.

Or a HEALTHY Shy Tuttle! We quickly forget how big of a DL haul it really was to land Khalil McKenzie, Shy Tuttle, Quay Picuo, and Kyle Phillips all in the same group to rebuild our DL. Smh. That haul shoulda produced some results. Maybe this new and improved staff will squeeze some of their talent/potential out before their time at UT comes to an end. May still produce a star outta that group before all is said and done!

Hell, but NO production tho? Even a 3* LB shines on a good matchup sometimes. Bates, with his football IQ, and decent talent.....should earn more snaps and have better stats than a Colton Jumper, or a Cortez McDowell, or even a Quarte Sapp. McDowell/Sapp both are better Athletes, but Bates has the higher football IQ. But Bates has the higher football IQ AND probly a little better of an Athlete than Jumper. Yet all 3 have earned more snaps AND have alot more stats in the books. Crazy. I was real excited when we landed Bates. I still hate to think he can't produce something. Maybe Sherrer will unlock some magic, untapped potential that's been hiding! Lol. I'm hopeful of some better development of ALL our D guys now under Sherrer and Fair and now Kelly. Hopeful......

- And Smith may possibly break out with a new staff
- You can say the same thing for any LBer that you said about Ignont for any of the teams you mentioned who haven't played yet
- Don't know about Kongbo, guess we will see.
- We recruited top 15 the last 4 years. It's a development issue, not a talent issue.
