'18 GA LB JJ Peterson (Tennessee signee)

Could someone young explain what “if I find a hat” means?

He couldn’t possibly be suggesting if they offer him a ball cap, he’ll sign, could he?

Peterson spoke with SEC Country’s Benjamin Wolk about the chances of ending up with the Vols.

“My first official I’m going to the Vols on Jan. 12,” he said. “If I find a hat, it’s over.”

Certainly encouraging for Tennessee fans.

Not only does Pruitt have a great relationship with Pruitt, but he’s also close with Kevin Sherrer who will be the Vols new defensive coordinator. Sherrer was the primary recruiter of Peterson while he served as the linebacker coach at Georgia.

Peterson rates as the No. 2 outside linebacker and No. 44 prospect in the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Moultrie, Ga., native has the ability to come in and contribute almost immediately next season.

Peterson is simply just a higher class of prospect than who the Vols have regularly brought in over the past few years. This would be a tremendous get for Tennessee if they can close the deal.

The Vols have struggled with linebacker play the past few seasons when Darrin Kirkland is sidelined with an injury. Pruitt plans to implement a 3-4 scheme next season which will put much more of an emphasis on better linebacker play.

The Vols have one linebacker signee in junior college transfer Jordan Allen. Matthew Flint is also committed, he planned to sign during the early signing period in December. He held off which might signal there is some uneasiness between him and the coaching staff, possibly about fit.

Good to know Pruitt can get along with himself.

I've heard helmets called "hats", FWIW.

I’ve got a number of Tennessee hats. He can have his choice of the lot if it’ll get him to sign up.

Hell..... he can have all of them. I’ll get more.

Agreed. If they're going to a 3-4 here, there's no point in waiting to install it.

Play what the personnel you have allows you to play. Play whatever gives you the best chance to win. I'm tired of playing for year 2 or year 3 or year whatever. Play to win now. Recruit to win in the future.

Wow. Any comments from the Bama boards?

I just get the feeling that after the 8th our staff will be full on cruitin the best of the best still unsigned and that Saban will convince this kid that the best business decision of his life is a no brainer staring him right in the face.

JJ needs to know he will be committing to a school, not a coach. Choose UT if he wants. He will have an underwhelming college experience with UT in that gawd awful orange, while Alabama will continue to win, and continue to be in the playoffs with or without him.

For those still hopeful, all new Crystal Ball predictions on 247 are for UT. Even BOL guys are flipping to UT.

It's over. He's not coming here. JP has known the kid since he was in the 8th grade. And if I'm not mistaken, this is one of Propst's players. Forget about it.
