'18 GA LB JJ Peterson (Tennessee signee)

Anyone think he actually wants to visit UT first before knowing 100% this is where he wants to go and it probably has nothing to do with Propst?

Thanks. I have been a longtime member at a couple other Vol pay sites. I ended up cancelling my subs because of the mods on one site and the trolls on the other site. I'll let everyone figure out which site was which. So...here I am. :)

Welcome to VN! I've never wasted my time or money on the other sites. VN has everything a Vol fan could want.

This Peterson recruitment just goes to show you how much relationships with coaches really matter when it comes to these kids. Never even visited and is almost a Vol lock. All he needs to know is that he will be playing big time football in the SEC for his favorite coach in recruitment. The actual school plays very little into most of these kids decision.

Butch did always say 1 thing right while here at UT. "Recruiting is about relationships"

Great example of yet another East TN kid who had no business getting a scholly offer at UT.

I was friends with a Maryville grad while at UT who insisted Maples would be an impact player. I don’t think he ever played a down? Other than the tackle who transferred (forget his name), has any Maryville kid made good at the D1 level? Seems like they were products of Quarles and his system for the most part and not super great athletes

Center for Clemson that graduated last year... Jay Guillermo. But he does seem to be the exception and not the rule.

Peterson spoke with SEC Country’s Benjamin Wolk about the chances of ending up with the Vols.

“My first official I’m going to the Vols on Jan. 12,” he said. “If I find a hat, it’s over.”

Certainly encouraging for Tennessee fans.

Not only does Pruitt have a great relationship with Pruitt, but he’s also close with Kevin Sherrer who will be the Vols new defensive coordinator. Sherrer was the primary recruiter of Peterson while he served as the linebacker coach at Georgia.

Peterson rates as the No. 2 outside linebacker and No. 44 prospect in the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Moultrie, Ga., native has the ability to come in and contribute almost immediately next season.

Peterson is simply just a higher class of prospect than who the Vols have regularly brought in over the past few years. This would be a tremendous get for Tennessee if they can close the deal.

The Vols have struggled with linebacker play the past few seasons when Darrin Kirkland is sidelined with an injury. Pruitt plans to implement a 3-4 scheme next season which will put much more of an emphasis on better linebacker play.

The Vols have one linebacker signee in junior college transfer Jordan Allen. Matthew Flint is also committed, he planned to sign during the early signing period in December. He held off which might signal there is some uneasiness between him and the coaching staff, possibly about fit.
