'18 GA LB JJ Peterson (Tennessee signee)

Propst from what I’ve gathered over the years is most successful as a game planner. He studies your film and figures out what you’re good at and takes that away forcing you to either run or pass which you might not be so good at. But it’s his offensive game plan that’s deadly. He finds one or two weaknesses, say a slow lb or a cb that doesn’t like to hit in run support, and will exploit that weakness relentlessly. Just keeps pounding at the soft spots. He will be a good one if he comes

I love this strategy.....just like a lion surveying the herd looking for his next victim/meal.....very simple but highly effective!

I would imagine if he is the WR coach that he will also have the passing game coordinator title also.

He’ll have input. That’s Helton territory. I’m sure Propst will be ok with baby steps in his first college opportunity.

Here is a local perspective on Propst.
I am a Colquitt County resident. I will tell you this. He is more than qualified for the WR coaching position no doubt. Here are the advantages to hiring him.
1. He is an offensive genius
2. He has mirrored his high school programs after the Alabama training programs and has close ties with Saban.
3. His players are so well conditioned that by the time they play ball at the next level that they find that most college programs are somewhat easier.
Downsides
1. He has rubbed a lot of people in town raw with his entitlement attitude because he is the head Football coach Rush Propst.
2. He is dedicated to his job for sure but the parents never know his schedules because it whatever he feels at the time and your kid may have to be at school at 5:00AM for conditioning and may not be home until 10.:30 after practice at night and he is unapologetic about it.
3. He has had issues on a personal level paying local merchants for services.

Overall he is a great football coach. He is a very successful coach. He has a lot of contacts and will be a great recruiter. He does take care of his players when they need help, but on a personal level he has rubbed a lot of people wrong in Colquitt County. He will be missed greatly as a coach if he takes the position from a x's and o's perspective but he wont be missed so much by a majority of the county on a personal level. Like i said he has taken care of a lot of his players and secured well over 100 scholarships to play at the next level since he has been here but he has an entitlement syndrome

Sounds to me like all the downsides are only negative for high school teams and towns. Doubt any of those have an affect at the college level

Player: Roquan Smith | Prospect: JJ Peterson

Considering Roquan Smith is arguably the best linebacker in college football, this is a lofty comparison for Peterson, but bear with me. A Georgia kid with similar size as Smith, Peterson is extremely athletic who even returns kickoffs for his Colquitt County High School team. Smith was really a hybrid rover type of ‘backer coming out of high school more so than a true inside linebacker and Peterson has that kind of athletic profile. But the thing that really draws me to this comparison is that both of these guys are football junkies. You can sense it talking to Peterson and he’s got the same kind of attitude that embraces a leadership role on the defense. Whoever gets him will feel his presence in the locker room.

HUGE get for Tennessee!

I love what Propst brings for recruiting and knowledge of the game, but that’s going to be a tricky dynamic if he is used to sitting on the throne with absolute control and now has to come in as a position coach that is on paper subordinate to a young offensive coordinator. He could be an enormous asset to Helton (and Pruitt) if he can keep his ego in check and provide constructive input rather then angling to take over the OC position in a year or two.

His ambition has been to get into the college game. His second family act cost him the analyst spot that went to Pruitt and sent him on this path. At his age, reality sets in and he’ll take what comes without screwing it up imo. He knows his protege. That political angling thing doesn’t wash from Pruitt’s school of thought.

I sure hope so. I certainly don’t know the guy’s mind and heart, but it’s only human nature for someone with that age and experience who has only been in the top spot his whole career (albeit in a smaller fishbowl) to look at Helton and think “I know I can do that job better than this kid.” And he may very well be right, but it would not be good for anyone involved if he did. Hope that doesn’t come to pass.

I still don’t like the fact that he might take a final visit to Bama.

It won’t. Or Pruitt will dump him.

JJ is my favorite recruit thus far. I like his interviews. I bet there is at least one person on here that hunted down his address and mailed him a hat 😂.

Not sure Propst has anything to do with it. Doubt he’s hired at UT. I think it’s JJ’s relationship with Pruitt that’s winning here not his HS coach. JMO.

Oh I agree I was just saying if Pruitt hires Propst he can't do it till Peterson signs. I personally don't want Propst anywhere near Knoxville.

You are getting your wish. Hubbs does not think Propst will be part of the staff

Pruitt going to UTk is going to cost Bama two too 50 LBs and two potential 5* players.

Luckily, that is one of the two positions Bama could afford to miss on, and it looks like Bama’s 2019 class could be stupid good at LB.

Still sucks though, and we are going to lose a kid to a school he’s never visited.....

Who else is he talking about? Quay?

EDIT: Maybe he's insinuating Bama loses them not necessarily both to Tennessee.

Bituli, Peterson, Kirkland jr, and Quay Walker all possibly play at the same time? If so that’s a talented starting group

taking advantage of a weakness i can totally agree with.

I think that's right. VQ mods said on podcast today that even though Walker is currently committed to Bama he's not going to end up there. UF, UGA or UT. If he makes the visit to Knoxville I like our chances with this staff.

They’re “Peterson”ing out. :w00t:
Re: #1 OLB JJ Peterson Updates
Once he announces Vile, move on to a LB thats wants to be Crimson. K Ruggs, is maybe not highly rated but he sure wants to wear crimson and has some talent and is not much smaller than JJ. Because there are not many highly regarded LBs left out there.

Mmmmm.... traditional Vol “Missed Recruit Whine”, but in a rare Crimson vintage.
