"I am still working and trying to get to the of it (recruiting)," said Ratledge. "It is killing me. I am still thinking about things, but I will commit this summer and be committed before my senior year. I am pretty set on that." He said he goes back and forth almost daily. One day he feels like he may be leaning towards one school, then it is another the next day or two. At least it appears to be down to two finalists. "Yeah, you could say it is
Georgia or
Tennessee for me. It really is down to those two schools now.I have had relationships with coaches at those two schools for a couple of years now, and with the changeover at
Alabama, it kind of changed things.
"Things could still happen, and another school could get in there, but Georgia and Tennessee are the main two now."
Each school has had the No. 5 offensive tackle in the country on campus twice in 2019. He is very familiar with each school, the culture, the staff and what takes place on game-day. He likes a lot of the same things about each school, but there is one difference in how they recruit him. "With coach Pittman at Georgia, he is just a little more of a personable guy," said Ratledge. "Coach Friend at Tennessee is great too, but he may be a little more business. "Coach Pittman is about how things are outside of football. I have a great connection with both coaches, and they are both recruiting me hard, but that is a little difference between the two. "Other than that, there are a lot of similarities with Georgia and Tennessee. That is why I like them both."
Harrison Bailey is recruiting me and I know
Sean Brown (2019 signee), so he is on me some too. With Georgia, I hung out with
Akinola Ogunbiyi at G-Day and we talked a good bit. He is a fun dude. Also,
Carson Beck is recruiting me too. "I like all those guys. I know Sean the best because we are from the same area, but I like all the guys." Most know by now with Ratledge being a national recruit for a couple of years, but if you didn't, he is from Tennessee and he grew up in a family full of Vol fans. "Yeah, there is some pressure to go to Tennessee and I hear about it from my dad's side of the family because they are all die-hard Tennessee fans, but it is not that bad. "It is more of them playing around with me. I know the whole family will support me regardless of where I go. Sure, a lot of them want me to go to Tennessee, but they would be happy for me either way. "I do feel some pressure, but I do not take as real pressure.
Telling his family of his decision may or may not be a little tough for Ratledge, depending on which school he selects, but he knows telling the school that finished second is not going to be easy. "Man, I am dreading that day and that conversation," said Ratledge. "I have great relationships with coaches, and I am starting to tell some (told Auburn last week) that I am not going there, but to tell the coaches from Georgia or Tennessee no will be one of the toughest things I have to do. "I am not looking froward to that part."
"I just want to go hang out with the players, get a better feel for those guys and see how I feel," said Ratledge. "I have talked to some players already, and all of them say to go with my gut. "I will spend a couple of days at the schools, get one more feel and then figure things out. "I am going to look at everything — relationships, the school, the feel, the players — all of that. When I make the decision though, it will be a gut decision. I will take football out of the equation too. I want to go somewhere that I will be happy with or without football. "I know that time is coming soon and I am very much looking forward to making that decision."
