'20 GA OL Tate Ratledge (UGA commit)

Read an interesting tad bit from Rusty Mansell earlier in the day. Saying Tate usually takes a friend and maybe one family member to UGA but it’s usually always just family to Tennessee. Obviously they are big fans but that still has some impact. The more I have reached out to people, the more confident I feel that Sam Pittman is the biggest obstacle in this one. I plan to be at Darlington next week to check in on Tate. I’m starting to like Tennessee’s chances more and more in this one.

i would feel really, really, really good about a LOS haul that included Tate, rogers, Thomas, Hardy, Baron, Mays, Ojulari, Morris and Davis.....

The Rome native visited UT and UGA in back-to-back weeks for both school’s spring game, and while the Vols have made up considerable ground, many feel like UGA is still the team to beat with Ratledge, who has the strongest relationship with UGA OL coach Sam Pittman. It’s not over though, and the plan as of last week was for Ratledge to take OVs to both schools and then make a decision. Ratledge went public Thursday that he plans to take a step back from recruiting the coming weeks with finals, track and spring ball all in the picture right now.

"I am still working and trying to get to the of it (recruiting)," said Ratledge. "It is killing me. I am still thinking about things, but I will commit this summer and be committed before my senior year. I am pretty set on that." He said he goes back and forth almost daily. One day he feels like he may be leaning towards one school, then it is another the next day or two. At least it appears to be down to two finalists. "Yeah, you could say it is Georgia or Tennessee for me. It really is down to those two schools now.I have had relationships with coaches at those two schools for a couple of years now, and with the changeover at Alabama, it kind of changed things.

"Things could still happen, and another school could get in there, but Georgia and Tennessee are the main two now."
Each school has had the No. 5 offensive tackle in the country on campus twice in 2019. He is very familiar with each school, the culture, the staff and what takes place on game-day. He likes a lot of the same things about each school, but there is one difference in how they recruit him. "With coach Pittman at Georgia, he is just a little more of a personable guy," said Ratledge. "Coach Friend at Tennessee is great too, but he may be a little more business. "Coach Pittman is about how things are outside of football. I have a great connection with both coaches, and they are both recruiting me hard, but that is a little difference between the two. "Other than that, there are a lot of similarities with Georgia and Tennessee. That is why I like them both."

Harrison Bailey is recruiting me and I know Sean Brown (2019 signee), so he is on me some too. With Georgia, I hung out with
Akinola Ogunbiyi at G-Day and we talked a good bit. He is a fun dude. Also, Carson Beck is recruiting me too. "I like all those guys. I know Sean the best because we are from the same area, but I like all the guys." Most know by now with Ratledge being a national recruit for a couple of years, but if you didn't, he is from Tennessee and he grew up in a family full of Vol fans. "Yeah, there is some pressure to go to Tennessee and I hear about it from my dad's side of the family because they are all die-hard Tennessee fans, but it is not that bad. "It is more of them playing around with me. I know the whole family will support me regardless of where I go. Sure, a lot of them want me to go to Tennessee, but they would be happy for me either way. "I do feel some pressure, but I do not take as real pressure.

Telling his family of his decision may or may not be a little tough for Ratledge, depending on which school he selects, but he knows telling the school that finished second is not going to be easy. "Man, I am dreading that day and that conversation," said Ratledge. "I have great relationships with coaches, and I am starting to tell some (told Auburn last week) that I am not going there, but to tell the coaches from Georgia or Tennessee no will be one of the toughest things I have to do. "I am not looking froward to that part."

"I just want to go hang out with the players, get a better feel for those guys and see how I feel," said Ratledge. "I have talked to some players already, and all of them say to go with my gut. "I will spend a couple of days at the schools, get one more feel and then figure things out. "I am going to look at everything — relationships, the school, the feel, the players — all of that. When I make the decision though, it will be a gut decision. I will take football out of the equation too. I want to go somewhere that I will be happy with or without football. "I know that time is coming soon and I am very much looking forward to making that decision."

that might be one of the best interviews or whatever i've seen from a kid about this process. felt like it was very honest, and the fact that he is dreading telling one school no, tells you a lot about where he is.

good stuff. hope he comes here.

sounds like his gut is leaning UGA right now with Pittman. but also sounds like its a tough call.

yeah, i guess you can read in to that a little bit....i guess we'll find out. the good news for us...he basically told us what we needed to do better...doesn't sound like there's much more GA can do on that front?

i mean, if you're in to silver linings and all..........

Friend has held his own, not a knock on him but with the GA in state advantage already, wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit if Pittman received an offer he couldn't refuse..in a conference far, far away.
Back to reality, full court press?

It makes you wonder what UGA is offering that overcomes by all accounts his family his friends and relationships with our commits and leans? Are Pittman and Kirby that good?

well, i think pittman has a solid rep out there. and Kirby does too. and GA has done well to take advantage of the situation they were in when they fired Richt. they didn't let it flame out before they started over. Kirby was able to come in and win 8 games that first year, and had basically everyone come back on that defense in year 2. instant success matters, and they've parlayed that in to an SEC title and playoff berth....so they're the other "it" program aside from Bama, Clemsoon and OSU.

They're selling them lies. Just look at the Fields situation.

Let me preface this statement by clarifying that I do not follow recruits on twitter, however I had one of Ratledges tweets in my timeline from a rivals writer re-tweeting.

Pictures of Tate with his prom date wearing an ugly red and black tux jacket. With is comments on Pitt I think UGA has the edge more than most believe.

Might be reading a bit too much into it lol. Red/black are common tux colors/combo, not many orange Tux to be found on prom night.

As Tate told Callahan, Tn is making it really hard to say no.

His date may have been an UGA fan and made him wear those colors. I would have made mine wear an orange tie in the same situation. The girl picks a dress then the guy wears a tux to match.

Wonder why no NFL team has come after Sam Pittman considering he is held in high regard as an offensive line coach.
In the NFL his recruiting chops don’t weigh heavily. Outside of that, you can coach OL or you can’t. He’s now making $1.5 mil...pros won’t up that considerably enough. Also he’s set at UGA until whenever he decides to retire...Kirby or no Kirby. Something to be said for job security.
