'20 GA OL Tate Ratledge (UGA commit)

Our last natty was over 20 years ago. The one before that...50 years. We are light years behind Bama, UGA and Clemson. I'm not sure we're a better "school" than any of those 3. We certainly aren't in their league on the football field. I do get your point in that we have a better history in football than either UGA or Clemson, but that was so very long ago. It's almost to the point of saying that Ga Tech has a better history than UGA and Clemson. It really is a reach...a way, way back reach.

Pruitt spouted off about how great we were going to be in recruiting. Pretty clear he thought recruiting would be just as easy at UT as at Bama. Just stroke some egos and grab that 5 star haul. Reality is harsh sometimes. Hey, maybe this staff is filled with super coaches that can take a top 15 class and beat the likes if Bama and UGA. Time will tell.

Let's just get back to enjoying watching football first then we can worry bout dat other stuff.

This one hurts. Dad is a huge Vol fan and his father’s family members are huge Vol fans and he spent a large part of his life in Tennessee and yet we are going to lose out to UGA. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the decision to an extent but I think UT has a legit staff in place with legit support and I think we can get things turned around if we can just get guys like Tate to believe it’s happening. Let’s hope that Tate has a change of heart and decides to lead the Vols back to the top instead of playing for a hated rival.

My son is telling me he’s going to UT. Hates Georgia. He is the kind of kid who doesn’t mind a challenge. If UT was a mess and he had his choice of schools, he would go to Tech. In no way would he choose Georgia, Florida, or Bama because he knows I hate them. He knows I love him no matter what but fact is, he loves me too. No way he would do that to me with as big a Vol fans as we are. There are over 100 plus schools he could choose from instead.
Your son knows him?

If we do indeed lose out on Tate, it doesnt hurt. We cannot get top rated lineman in every class. Last years class was a miracle.

We are trapped in a perpetual chicken/egg paradox. We can't win without better players and we can't get better players without winning. Butch got lucky with the legacy class, plus he's a pretty good salesman but it wasn't sustainable. There are only two things that will break this cycle, a charmed season where all the bounces and calls that matter go our way (never gonna happen) or hire a rock star coach. In 2-3 years we're going to have another crack at this thing and next time UTAD damn well better go the Texas A&M route and offer a sitting head coach with championship experience whatever dollar amount it takes.

It’s like the chicken/egg paradox, but not exactly. We are at the point where we are gonna have to win some and put a few players in the NFL before we can recruit much better than we did last year. Now by win, I don’t even mean win the east. But we’ve got to prove we can handle UK, Vandy, Missouri, and S. Carolina with what we’ve got before we are gonna be able to draw more than a handful of the caliber of player that UGA, Clemson, and Bama are pulling.
