'20 GA OL Tate Ratledge (UGA commit)

I think the real frustration is that the Butch Oline recruits that are Juniors and Seniors have not turned out yet. Friend is supposed to be this top tier Oline coach, but did we see improvement last year? (I would include Fitz in this case as well.) It was minimal if even noticeable. To be fair I would have said the same about Pittman's one year here as we could not run block against the big boys in the conference with a line full of guys that went pro. I think we will see a staff change on the Oline at the end of the year, if improvement isn't made sooner than later in that aspect, and possibly strength and conditioning as well.
The problem is that the Oline recruits that BJ recruited are just not that good. They are Jrs and Srs and hopefully will not play another game at UT. I don't mean to be negative, but they just are not that good. He was horrible at evaluating OL talent.

Fitz is one of the best in the business according to people in the industry. No chance he is fired. Friend is well thought of in the coaching community. Hard to make chicken salad out of chicken shi-.

If either of those guys are the best in the business, then the line should be much improved this year.

The line should be improved but it wont be great even if Trey Smith can play. I think it can be good in 2020 and if its not Friend should be on the hot seat then but certainly not now.
I definitely agree with that.

I don't even know what to say

We lost out on him bc Pittman and him have the strongest relationship which was built over a longer time peroid. It was also pointed out we have a long history of kids not being developed and we have staff turnover every few years. Also was brought up that Tennessee had two elite OTs brought in last year’s class.

We had a chance if this had went longer imo but I doubt he decommits unless Pittman leaves. Bottom line is Tennessee has to win

According to some, Pittman is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
He is the Brett the Hitman Heart of NCAA football Coaches. Pittman can take our sorry @$$ MAC level Olineman and make them ALL SEC.

With what Georgia is paying him, he damn well better be the best.

Personally I believe that CJPruitt was a great hire and given time he will be successful in Knoxvegas..but I don’t think his OL hire was a top tier hire…Having watched Coach Friend in Athens….The guy is a fine man, but I am unsure if his resume qualifies him for a position like UT…His UGA star would be David Andrews…who was an undrafted Free Agent. Be interesting to see if CoachPruitt is as bare knuckled with his OL coach as he is with all other subordinates…Be interesting to watch recruiting when immediate playing-time is not on the table.. Don’t think anybody hires CoachFriend just based off his UGA recruiting results.

I really liked Friend as a coach at UGA but he was good and not great as displayed by the mid-level OLs he put together over the years. Not to mention, as a recruiter, not much to point at.

So who is Pittman hanging his hat on? Why does he have a mythical mystique about him?

Well, he did help Isaiah Wynn go from a guard to a first round pick playing him at LT, Frank Ragnow credits him quite a bit, so does Jonathon Cooper who was a first rounder out of UNC .. Lamont Gaillard was a converted DL since the last staff (Sale and Friend as OL coaches/recruiters) didn't build enough depth and Pittman just helped that guy get drafted as a center.

The essence of Sam Pittman: Georgia’s O-line coach is...
