'19 GA OLB Roman Harrison (Tennessee signee)

It’s hard for me to fault them too much for Crouch’s drop off. He missed his SR season and will play LB in college after spending most of his time in HS primarily as a RB. It seems reasonable to me that that uncertainty would lead them to bump him down a bit. Big upside, but a little hard to project compared to other elite prospects.
I agree with the concept of them dropping him. But to go from #1 to 122 is ridiculous. Just on his athleticism that's an absurd drop. As I said earlier, I don't believe you could find 120 players better than him in the last 3 or 4 classes combined if he's healthy. He's on another level.

Didn’t realize he’d fallen that far, TBH.

I believe that Crouch has the talent to be a top 10 draft pick when it's said and done. I mean, I realize that I don't know much, but the dude just looks like a freak when he's on the field at whatever position. He only played a few plays at the AA practice because he hurt his shoulder, but VQ said that he was absolutely dominant and unstoppable on those plays. He's a monster.

I think they take his injury history into account. That is the only thing that will keep him away from playing on Sundays.

He posted 14 sacks in one season, despite touching the ball almost every single snap on offense. There is no uncertainty unless he is switching to kicker

I don't know how you can say this kid isn't physically talented. He has SEC level size for an OLB and is strong enough to hold his own at nose tackle. If you believe his numbers he's an athletic freak. His weight room numbers compare well to some highly rated OL recruits in the class who are much bigger. And his vertical and 40 time would compete with a lot of DBs and running backs who are much smaller. He is raw and is playing out of position (which may speak to his competitive character) so yes he may be a little bit of a "reach". But physically and athletically I don't think you can say he's on a lower level than what those other schools are recruiting. The rest comes down to if you believe we have the coaches who can develop him.
Bruin inspired me to find one of my old posts where I was right about something and quote it for accolades. Hahaha jk bru.

I agree but I also don't fault them for dropping him. Although he probably dropped way too far.

I agree. The good news is they have been insignificant injuries. But hopefully that isn't really a thing. I don't think he was hurt his junior year, was he? I think it was just his senior year and they were minor. Hopefully he'll be fine. I mean, he got a shoulder stinger at the Army game. That's nothing. he would have been playing if he were at TN with a shoulder stinger.

Roman likely will have an easier road to seeing playing time early. Austin Smith put his name in the transfer portal. So now at OLB we have:
Taylor
Deandre Johnson
Jordan Allen
Roman Harrison
Kivon Bennett
Do we know if JJP will be at inside or outside? I know Pruitt said they could move him around, but I wonder where he'll primarily be? Crouch also.

Any kid who was used that much on both sides of the ball will have a few injuries come that following offseason. IMO his head coach/mentor(the guy who guided him to UTand actually dropped him off a couple weeks ago) left Harding and Crouch made a business decision to not be used like that again for the sake of his career and his family. It’s very easy to see what went on here. If the coach never leaves you likely see Crouch play his senior year

Wow didn’t know that about Smith but makes sense. Really want his little brother still

I think he was injured after his junior year and then again his senior year.

Eh there’s a little uncertainty at least. Do we even know for sure which LB spot he’ll start at? The coaches have said they want him to be able to play all 4 spots. It’s not a stretch to see him needing a year to settle in at LB, but he’d basically be plug and play at RB (which is why he was rated so highly to begin with).

I would think both Crouch and JJP can play both positions. He’ll get the best on the field, you’d think that’d be some kind of combination of Taylor, JJP, Bituli and Crouch. Johnson, Ignont, DKjr, Harrison hopefully To’oto’to will provide some great depth. LB looking good for the future

LB is definitely an intriguing position for us heading into 2019. We return a lot of experience and have some younger guys with a lot of talent who should push to see the field.

I agree. Dude was out of this world his Junior year, both on offense and defense. He looked every bit the #1 player in the nation. If he comes back and plays anything close to that, he'll be considered a huge "steal" in this class.

Exactly. Guy played Lb part time and had 14 sacks. He’s a freak. He would’ve been the best RB in the class had he wanted to stay there also

Agreed. If he’s not good enough to get playing time ahead of those guys, he’s not good enough to play in the SEC and is essentially a wasted scholly

😬

Yikes that’s not a good looking group outside of Taylor.
Deandre Johnson has shown some flashes. Bennett looked good in limited snaps last season. I think Harrison is gonna be a monster. But yes, not our strongest position. If Crouch plays there tho it looks a lot better

I wouldn’t mind Crouch getting a few snaps there on 3rd and long, but ideally I’d put JJP there. That may be his fastest route to playing time if he’s still a little on the heavy side. He looked huge when he came in last fall.
