'19 GA OLB Roman Harrison (Tennessee signee)

All this time I seriously thought he was a JUCO kid. Don’t see many high schoolers lifting like that. Damn I’m pumped we get this beast for 4 years.

So if you go to his 247 profile, you can see his trajectory from Jr to end of Sr year. He went from an unranked guy- to the 175 player overall in the country and 20th in GA! That's a heck of a bump, not to mention being top 20 in Georgia means you are a hell of a football player.
Funny thing is...hes' still underrated.... imo.

He reminds me of a player that played even before my time. This guy played NG in college for Bobby Bowden at FSU and is recognized as one of the best players in FSU history. I'm talking about Ron Simmons. 6'1" 240 lbs of pure muscle and explosive power.
Ron Simmons is from Warner Robins GA. A south Georgia boy, just like Roman Harrison.

With all that said, football has changed a good deal since 1977. Players have gotten bigger AND faster. I think, however, the basics are still in place.
- lower man wins.
- speed and power is the most effective combination
In Roman Harrison, you have an 18-year-old who's benching probably 450 lbs and legitimately runs a 4.6- Recorded electronically and has 39 inch vertical on video. That's not just "hard work". That is God-given talent as well.
So is he a workout warrior? Yes, he is, but he's an even better football player!
His highlight tape is some of the best defensive film I have ever seen. He doesn't just overpower offensive lineman, he uses his hands and array of duck and spins moves to get to the ball carrier. He can go around them or through them! Heck even jump over them sometimes.
He will be a starter come this fall. He'll give us something we haven't had in a while...

Some people will have you believe we're all born with the same capacities haha.

He's 235 lbs. It's conceivable for him to bench twice his weight as a freshman in college!! We're not all born equal. That's raw physical ability plus hard work.

Can't weight to see Him, Peterson, Crouch and To'oto'o lighting fools up!

Not to mention Ignot is growing into his own.

And then there's Beasley...

if kid has a 545 lb olympic squat, he should have a 400 lb bench press.

ive known one or two guys with those type numbers, they were true diet, strength guys. like what you see on TV.

good for him. looks like he had help off the rack and pushed off up in the air but hey, 410 is 410. id be lucky to get 135 at my age. ok maybe thats a tad understated.

The purpose of the vids is this is BEFORE Coach Fitz gets ahold of him. Far cry from the kids who needed a year or three of quality S&C before they can play at a high level. Who cares if it wouldn't have qualified or whatever else..

The latest article from The Athletic is about UT signing on with a recruiting service called Tracking Football. They analyze recruits through a combination of track and field and combine data, and then distill that down to a rating of 1-5 to describe a player’s raw athleticism. The average FCS player is a 2.0. Average FBS player is a 3.0. As part of Tracking Football’s sales pitch, they compiled a list of current and former Vols for which they had data on. Take a look where Harrison sits:

I had heard something about this company prior to the athletic didn’t realize Tennessee was using them though. The guy who invented it goes into detail on how they rank guys in an interview.

Do you know why there is such a large difference for Crouch?

Ubben mentions in the comments that he ran the 100m and 400m in high school, which is what the 3.2 is based on. His combine score is based on his 40 time, shuttle time, power toss, and vertical jump.

Seems like maybe he’s an exceptionally “fast-twitch muscle” type of guy.

Would help if we have some defensive lineman that can free him up to make some plays....Him being a 3-4 edge rusher will help though. I like our chances with him going up against a tackle one on one for 4 years. He's going to be a tough match-up.
