'25 GA OT Josh Petty (Georgia Tech commit)

Saw a guy on the sideline tonight that I had to search the roster for because he’s one of the best looking specimens on the team. #60 Jeremias Heard. I have a hard time thinking that guy can’t play ball. He will make Sanders earn it at LT when he’s ready and could push for the starting job at RT next season. I’ve seen no film but he’s built like a freak athlete and I’m not just saying he’s tall. He looks athletic
Yea.
He was actually originally recruited to play Dline.
But he has everything you want in an OT

Between him, L. Heard, and Sanders I feel great about our future at OT. Not so sure about the interior but if that’s the only weakness we have to fill via the portal for 2025 we should AGAIN have one of the best teams in the country. It sure would be nice if Petty would get on board with being a guard for the Vols…

As soon as he got to Tennessee, he started practicing at offensive tackle, which made folks question if he had actually been recruited as a defensive lineman. I forget who the recruiting analyst was, but he said had he known Tennessee was recruiting him as an offensive tackle, Heard would have been ranked as a four star by him and others. Kid is a great prospect.

it was me.
I said he was going to be an Offensive Tackle.

But everybody on the board was adamant that Rodney G wants who he wants so he was going to be a dog. And I believe the VQ guys also hinted at him being Dline

Next year will be our deepest online we’ve had from a scholarship lineman standpoint.

They just need a chance to play.

No you didn’t. You gave examples of other tall d linemen. Then after he committed you said maybe he’ll be an OT. After about 5 others said that, including AP saying “future first round OT”. Take a lap

I thought he’d be an OT too…but I’m referring to an actual recruiting analyst at On3 or 247 who said he’d have been rated a 4* if they’d known to list him as an OT. But they thought he was being recruited as a DL.

Our staff needs to set the Oline at the end of spring practice and let them gel over the summer. Trying to determine who your starting five is on Monday going into your first game is limiting.

I’m hopeful that Karic can get an extra year due to missing most of 2023 with an injury. If that’s the case, the left side is set with Heard and Karic. Satterwhite will be the Center and the staff likes him. The RG and RT spots will be between Ginther, Max Anderson, Jesse Perry, & Bennett Warren. Maybe Ayden Bussell or Brian Grant if the light comes on, but they seem to have been passes up by this year’s freshmen.

The good thing about so much competition is, the guys who don’t win starting jobs will provide solid depth…which we haven’t enjoyed in a long time.

Getting Karic for another year would be huge
pure speculation, but I wonder if staff views current OL situation in a similar way that they viewed DBs last year. Maybe not to the extreme (DBs were much worse in 23 compared to OL in 24).

But is there a way that if Karic/Heard lock up left side (similar to belief in Ricky/Turrentine/Brooks in DB room), then GE believes in current depth/one impact transfer to greatly elevate the unit? Losing Coop hurts obviously. But there is a chance that we could have internal upgrades over Sprags/Campbell. Just food for thought comparing the two situations
