'25 GA OT Josh Petty (Georgia Tech commit)

Kage Casey: LT at Boise (Soph) 6’5, 316
- Second Team Freshman All America

Hell the whole Boise State OL is just Sophomores.

SMU has a freshman at RT that was previously at A&M

The longer we go without any dialog with another 2025 OL, the more I think the portal is what we’ll do.

I don’t see many positions that we’re likely to target in the portal, but OG and DT are likely two. Maybe the only two.

I’d get a OT as well. I don’t trust Heard fully and we don’t have much behind them.

I’d redshirt Sanders or throw him at OG for his first season, like Trey…I’d assume he’s big enough for OG.

Wish they would get the younger guys more game reps so we can actually see what we need.

The coaches see them more than us and definitely know what we need

Standing next to Sanders Saturday, he’s not near big enough to play OG. He’d need to add at least 30 lbs., IMO. I think he’ll add some weight and compete to be the backup LT next year.

I’d be surprised if they take a portal OT because I think they like what they have in Perry and Warren. Those two, plus Heard, LJ3, Sanders, and maybe Trevor Duncan if he comes along gives you 6 solid OTs. But I could see them getting a swing man in the portal who can play inside or outside, as well as a true Guard.

I do think Heard will be good next year. He’s already improved a lot in the last month. He just needed and needs more experience.

I think it depends on the OL that are out there. If there's an OT out there that can protect Nico better than the guys we have, you take the leap. Next year could potentially be Nico's last year here. Part of him living up to potential is protecting him. What we do in the portal will tell us what the coaches think of the guys we have.

To a point above, sanders is currently too thin to play guard. But man, his athleticism on pulls in our O would be very fun. I think staff will roll with Perry/Warren/Heard/Sanders along with #53 for tackles. Interior is more of question IMO

All good points. I am hoping we see the younger OL dudes get more reps in 3 of these next 4 games.

I hear ya, and agree with most of what you said, but ... we don't need Sanders to play guard "currently" as it would be the better part of a year from now when we would put him in there.

I think it depends on who is in the portal of course. We paid a lot for Heard. Elite OTs are going to be rare and command more investment.

Zero chance Sanders plays guard here.

He was specifically recruited to play tackle.

Not hard to grasp.
It's nothing about grasping anything at all. We all agree Sanders is meant to be tackle. But the fact is, they do cross-train our OL at multiple positions, and as someone else noted, guys like Trey Smith were able to get on the field earlier as guard before moving on to tackle. I'm fine with leaving it to our coaches. 🤷

Yes, I do accept that, but as a true freshman he might not be quite ready to start in the SEC at LT, and beat out Heard to do it.

Agree. But he won’t be nearly big enough to start at Guard as a true freshman either.

He’s likely the backup LT as a freshman, Heard will likely break out and leave early for the NFL, then Sanders starts at LT as a sophomore in 2026.

At some we have to play the guys we’re recruiting out of HS and developing.

Sanders isn’t a RS candidate I imagine.
He’ll probably back up Heard and play a lot of snaps because Heard gets injured

I don’t see Larry Johnson getting kicked to the curb in favor of Sanders next season. Sanders is objectively more talented but ‘25 will be Larry’s third season out of college and will be 6’7 and trimmed down to a slim 340 by then. We don’t need Sanders next season, but he could get his feet wet. Which is exactly what every freshman SHOULD be allowed to do if the proper depth is there

LJ3 might be the backup RT with Davis departing. Either way, if Heard, Warren, and Perry all develop as expected, we should finally have some quality depth at the OT spots, whether Sanders is ready or not. And Trevor Duncan might also be ready to provide quality depth by then too.
