'25 GA S Lagonza Hayward (Florida)

End of the day, and people are going to hate hearing this, but we need to recruit better. We're a playoff team, yet we're getting out recruited by Auburn and about to be passed by Florida. I love Coach Heupel. I'm not screaming for blood or for anyone to get fired. But he has to figure out why teams that are worse than us are out recruiting us. It's bad enough that Georgia and Bama are still getting almost whoever they want. But when teams that have not been good this year are out recruiting us, that's not good. The fact so many of you are not wanting to see this is baffling. If our goal is to win championships, which it should be, we need to recruit better.
I posted a similar write-up last week. I love Heupel and not bashing him, but recruiting has to get better. We supposedly have one of the best NIL programs in America; I am kind of confused on how other teams like Auburn ext. have a better class than we do. If you look at average stars, even Missouri and Florida State are ahead of us. I am not saying recruiting is 100 percent accurate, but for the most part, the top teams in recruiting always win 99 percent of the time. Top recruiting classes win see Vitello.

We have more blue chips than in years and winning like we haven’t since the 90’s. We should keep Sanders and lost this guy and Kobanny the bunny mainly because we have talent in front of these guys. We will be fine.

I followed recruiting for over thirty years now, and these things happen all the time. My feelings have always been if you don't want to be a Volunteer, we don't want you. I understand with NIL things are different to a degree, but if a player wants to be some where else; that's where they need to be for everyone's sake.

I remember when Dooley was coach, and people said everything would be fine. Then it was Butch, but people still assured me it would be fine. Then came Pruitt and the same assurances. It's always fine until it's not fine, and people just choose to ignore things they should be at least mildly alarmed by. Now, Heupel is a much different and better coach than those other schlubs ever were, but that doesn't make him infallible. We still need to recruit well and keep the talent gap as small as possible.

Here’s the deal though. I’ve followed recruiting for a long time. The difference is very thin.

According to On3, Auburn is 5th with one 5 star and fifteen 4 stars. We are 9th with one 5 star and 12 4 stars. That’s a difference of three 4 stars on an 85 man roster, knowing that some of those 3 stars will be solid contributors. Sure, sometimes UGA and Bama are on another level. But when you get past the elite classes, the next tier or two are mostly similar. Then, it’s about development. If we stay near the top ten on a regular basis and maybe get a top 7 every so often, we will be fine competing for titles in a 12 team playoff.

We are fine. I’m not sure who was saying often that we were fine under Dooley because it was publicly reported quickly that he didn’t care about instate coaching relationships.

And we are 12th nationally in average recruit ranking (90.94), 7th in the SEC.

We are fine right now. That doesn't mean we will stay fine. Continually adding talented players is how we stay fine. Recruiting matters.

Where are the parents in a situation like this when there's such a surprise? I understand when the parents are driving for more $$$ but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
It’s a Fing agent/handler leveraging a BS deal at the last minute to get more money. I can see doing it to Ohio State or Georgia or whatever but to Florida? You don’t even know who will be your coach or position coach soon.

This is a terrible loss any way you spin it, he was going to be a day 1 contributor, or at least be a contributor by the end of next season. Bad bad loss for the staff
Over who? Turrentine, Charles, jokobe got saftey locked up and boo and Harrison got star locked up… slaughter may develop at safety as well… I wanted this guy for sure but I doubt he would’ve contributed significantly beyond special teams next year… banks doesn’t like to rotate dbs much either…

We have rotated 4 safeties, 2 stars, and 3 cbs

Of course it does, but there is no evidence that it’s a big pattern. I can’t control it, so I don’t freak out.
Is it "freaking out" to talk about recruiting in the forum dedicated to recruiting?
