'25 GA S Lagonza Hayward (Florida)

Here’s the deal though. I’ve followed recruiting for a long time. The difference is very thin.

According to On3, Auburn is 5th with one 5 star and fifteen 4 stars. We are 9th with one 5 star and 12 4 stars. That’s a difference of three 4 stars on an 85 man roster, knowing that some of those 3 stars will be solid contributors. Sure, sometimes UGA and Bama are on another level. But when you get past the elite classes, the next tier or two are mostly similar. Then, it’s about development. If we stay near the top ten on a regular basis and maybe get a top 7 every so often, we will be fine competing for titles in a 12 team playoff.
I understand what you are saying, but I don't understand how Hugh Freeze is out recruiting us. What about Dan Lanning?

For what it’s worth, I don’t think having an expectation that we continue to be better in recruiting is a problem. It’s pretty proven even in the transfer portal world that you need to recruit consistently at a top 10ish level to be a real contender.

It’s also not worth totally freaking out about.

I think this is the right approach. You can appreciate the product we have on the field now and that we’ve finally made the CFP, while also recognizing that if we want to maintain this level of consistency and be an elite program our recruiting has to be better.

I’m hopeful that making the playoff, being one of the last teams standing, and possibly making a nice run will only strengthen our recruiting prowess. But it needs to improve.

needs to improve, yesterday. frustrating.

Maybe we'll still have a chance to get Shady back. I'm fine with losing Smith. Would like to keep Konnanbanny, but if we lose him, we lose him. I do see Shady as a big loss.

Still have a chance with Isaiah Campbell, Still could flip Perlotte or Merritt.

Have to hope Sanders stays true to his word and doesn't flip to OSU.

Results matter sure, but if you aren't willing to pay then it doesn't matter. A lot of these kids are going to have handlers who push them toward the highest payday so they can get a bigger cut.
Its stupid but it's the game now.

Money and playing time. Auburn has both.

Oregon does have some from the east, but 10 of theirs are west coast players. Geography is still a variable in recruiting. UT would get more players right now if the state had more to offer.

Sanders is really the only one that would be devastating to the class. Konnanbanny is more of a project, if he delays enrolling I think we pass on him. Shady of course would be great to land, possibly could get on the field early for us; and/or Merritt would also be nice. Perlotte is just a luxury if you land him; he’s a great player but not an absolute need. Campbell honestly might be the biggest impact commit other than Sanders and you have to feel optimistic there.

You wouldn't think Perlotte would be a big deal, but you have to wonder why the staff is so persistent in wanting another LB.

Tennessee produces a lot more talent than Oregon. And Tennessee is situated within close proximity to a ton of talent. Between those two schools geography by far favors Tennessee in recruiting over Oregon.

I hope everyone sees this Florida surge for what it is…all the booster money that was going to be spent buying out Napier is now going to be spent on NIL since they’re sticking with Napier. Florida admin and boosters aren’t sold on Napier long term. They just didn’t have much of a contingency for this year, so they’re going to give him a longer leash, spend buyout money on NIL, see how things play out.
So boosters thinking hey, let’s shell out more money to attract better players is somehow a bad thing?

Oregon is close to Cali, and the battles over those recruits (if they want to stay out west) don’t involve nearly as many high level schools. USC is about the only one right now.

They currently have 5 roughly top 250 players from Cali, one from Las Vegas, one from Oregon, and one from Arizona. Sure, Oregon itself doesn’t produce nearly as many but Nike Oregon is a huge brand. They do well in Texas too. Chip Kelly recruited reasonably well there, and Lanning is a much better recruiter.

UT is recruiting against at least 3 (and normally 5) top 20 programs for a recruit in the states of Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida.

I remember when Dooley was coach, and people said everything would be fine. Then it was Butch, but people still assured me it would be fine. Then came Pruitt and the same assurances. It's always fine until it's not fine, and people just choose to ignore things they should be at least mildly alarmed by. Now, Heupel is a much different and better coach than those other schlubs ever were, but that doesn't make him infallible. We still need to recruit well and keep the talent gap as small as possible.
Unlike those guys, that’s what he’s doing. And bunny isn’t even a blue chip. We’ve won more the last three years since 98-2000 but whatever. Worry all you want. I’m going to enjoy this.

UT is also closer to those recruits in NC and Georgia than Oregon is to the recruits in California.

I’m really tired of people trying to use the geography excuse for UT, then changing the standard for others. Where are the powerhouse schools in NC? Virginia? Georgia is closer to UT than California is to Oregon. And UGA can’t take them all. UT has Atlanta, Charlotte, and Nashville all within a 3-4 hour radius. Oregon has nothing near that kind of talent in such a close radius. Oh, and Cincinnati is also in that radius.

UT is situated in a great spot, geographically. Much better than Oregon is.

Take it easy Brady

Sounds like kid wanted guaranteed playing time early with little/no competition. He will get it in Gainesville. Too bad Lagway is to Napier as Dobbs was to Butch. The only guy keeping him employed. Not to mention that entire athletic department is in shambles and the AD has a 1ft leash.
