When Bama didn't win the SEC in 2019, did people predict the same apocalyptic collapse of their program? And they lose half their staff every other year, it seems.Simple. They have been declining in dominance even if they won most games. Didnโt win a weak ACC. Lost both coordinators. And thatโs what we want.
No, no one predicted AL would fall apart because their success is due to Saban. But the media even cooled on Clemson after the way they were playing with a lack of dominance. The fact that they lost both coordinators is different because they were seen as what gave them their success. Dabo may be better than he has been given credit and may prove it, but until then fans of other teams are going to celebrate them being on the down swing. Thatโs what fans, especially on message boards, do. Itโs harmless. And, no, I wouldnโt trade places with them because they are not Tennessee. I am a Tennessee fan no matter what the record is. Everyone else is subject to my ridicule at all times whether they deserve it or not. When Bama didn't win the SEC in 2019, did people predict the same apocalyptic collapse of their program? I just don't think it makes sense for a 7-6 fanbase to scoff at a program that has a .900 winning percentage over its last 100 games as if we wouldn't trade places with them in a heartbeat, and we certainly wouldn't be predicting our own demise in their shoes.
It just feels more like wishful thinking, at this point, than anything based in reality. Kind of like the people who annually convince themselves we will finish 10-2 and beat Florida by 3 TDs. In both instances, I'm in "see it to believe it" mode, I guess. I definitely won't shed a tear over Clemson falling apart. I just don't necessarily share the same level of certainty that it's imminent.
So Bama's success is due to Saban, but Clemson's success is entirely accredited to their assistants? Dabo has no influence? Come on, now...No, no one predicted AL would fall apart because their success is due to Saban. But the media even cooled on Clemson after the way they were playing with a lack of dominance. Letโs be honest Saban goes out and hires great OCโs and DCโs to run his defense and offense, Dabo just recruited within which is a huge risk. The only thing going for Clemson right now is the talent leftover on that team and their scheduleSo Bama's success is due to Saban, but Clemson's success is entirely accredited to their assistants? People once thought Chad Morris was the key to Clemson's success, then he left for a HC gig. Jeff Scott stepped in and they didn't miss a beat. Jeff Scott left for a HC gig. Tony Elliott stepped in and they didn't miss a beat. Now it's Brandon Streeter's turn. It's his 8th season with the program and like the others before him, he's worked his way up thru that coaching system.
Besides Dabo Swinney, Brent Venables is the only consistent piece of that coaching staff who has held his position over the entiretyof the past 7 seasons. So, maybe we look back in 3 years and say he was the cog in the wheel, but that is an awful lot to project. Wes Goodwin, despite his lack of positional coaching experience, is in his 11th season with the Clemson program. Maybe he falls flat on his face...but maybe he's the next Brent Venables. It just seems lazy and presumptuous to automatically assume he will, and bordering on pompous of our fanbase to presume Clemson football is doomed because their staff members successfully promote up the coaching ladder.
Lastly, it's pretty disingenuous to stubbornly state that you wouldn't trade our past 7 years for Clemson's, and it has nothing to do with you or I being Tennessee fans. I'm a Tennessee fan no matter what, too, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't trade our 45-41 record across the last 7 years for Clemson's 89-10 record with 2 national titles because I'm a fan of winning, too. Anyone would, and there's no shame in admitting it.
Once again, Chad Morris left...Jeff Scott hired from within. Jeff Scott left...Tony Elliott hired from within. Tony Elliott left...Brandon Streeter hired from within. There is more than one way to skin a cat, so to speak. Bama and Saban haven't cornered the market on the sole method to create a successful program. They've done a great job doing it their way, and so far, Clemson and Swinney have done a great job doing it differently. And sure, their soft schedule helps. That isn't changing. Neither is their talent level. So why the sudden expectation that they become a mediocre football program, again? Sure, if one of those hires doesn't pan out, it can happen. It can happen anywhere.
It's just strange to sit back and watch our wishful fanbase predict it as if it were a mathematical certainty when it's really more of an envious hope.
Sorry it has everything to do with being a Tennessee fan. I have no shame in admitting that everything is filtered through how something affects the Vols. And as of now, Dabo hired from within unproven coordinators which I believe will continue their downward trajectory. You can believe that because they won before he will be just like Saban and go back to where he was and start dominating again. Guess we can both have orange colored glasses until tomorrow actually happens. So Bama's success is due to Saban, but Clemson's success is entirely accredited to their assistants? Dabo has no influence? Come on, now...

Itโs not certain but thereโs an awful lot of rats jumping off that ship at once. Both coordinators and AD gone. Thatโs a tremendous void for a head coach. Perhaps Dabo will be fine but Iโm betting they take a step backwards. When Bama didn't win the SEC in 2019, did people predict the same apocalyptic collapse of their program? Yeah. Because you can say "he gone" on the vast majority of these discussions and be right over 90% of the time. You have to be in it to win these commits... and even then more won't commit than will for whatever reason.Told ya " he gone "
